I have been trying to level through instances. Holy Paladin. Naturally being a healer the queues are fast.

But it seems the lag I'm having is wiping the groups. I get a spike, tank dies and we wipe.

The lowest my lag has been:

400+ home

700+ world

This was on sylvanas eu and I could keep my group alive. :D

How much lag is un-healable?

Constant lag is not the problem it is spikes. If you are used to 500-600ms lag, you learn to compensate for it. But if you have 200ms lag and it spikes periodically to 1000ms you don't know when it will happen and your tank may die. Using addons such as quartz cast bar you can compensate easy for lag, by still being able to spam heals when needed.
But to be honest I will not heal if my latency is above 500ms, you have to do so much more healing to compensate for the things that may happen but never do that you run out of mana way to fast...

Tbh u cant really properly compensate for the lag and @ some point things will die :(

I guess dungeons will be ok with 500-600ms (without spikes), but when it gets so serious 25 hc raiding I will not raid with more than 250ms, but most importantly it should be a solid stable connection, meaning it staying @ a constant number and not spiking around (ie go to 1000ms for a split sec).
For that I use Web Africa + a proxy service and I always run with a 190-220 ms latency during a 25man hc boss fight
Ow, I'm also on Sylvanas EU.

My latency is constantly above 700ms...might this be why I'm finding healing difficult?

Also it is a MTN 3g connection I'm using. :/

Thanks for the answers guys. :)

Indeed, playing with such high latency will make it quite difficult. Healing becomes a game of predicting what is going to happen rather than healing the tank as he takes damage. For most people this just becomes to difficult to do. As mentioned by others, this is still possible in 5 man content to a small extend (having a brilliant tank that takes almost no dmg) but in 10-25man raids this is just not possible.
From my experience, days that my latency is around 200-250 I easily out heal any of our other healers, on my paladin. We even do a lot of encounters with the minimum of two healers and have no problem keeping the raid up. But as soon as my latency creeps over 350ms, my efficiency drops dramatically. Running out of mana quite fast and we have to use more healers to compensate for my reduced effective healing.

Try a druid... rolling constant HoTs will get you a lot further than a pally's straight heals. Spike damage is usually predictable according to mechanics. DK tanks will make you weep though.

Yesterday was the worst. I created another toon (horde pala) on another realm to compare. On both my runs of RFC the tank got one shotted by the first boss (thats what I saw on my side anyways :/) leading to wipes.

Thanks again anyways. :)

3g and wireless in general is awful for gaming. just plain awful. I wouldnt even bother.

Have you considered a service like BattlePing.
I played games like Aion, and now Rift on it (using IBurst), and my connection is usually stable at 300ms max.

Good luck!

Thanks...checked out battleping...but it seems theres no mac client :/

anything similar for macs?
