The Lamborghini Lanzandor concept, which previews the firm’s first fully electric car, has been revealed early after images leaked on social media ahead of its debut at Monterey Car Week.

The images confirm that the machine will be a high-riding 2+2, blending styling elements of the Lamborghini Urus and Sián with a similar silhouette to 2008’s Estoque, which did not yield a production car.

Inside, the Lanzandor features a pair of digital displays: an instrument panel in front of the driver and a matching infotainment screen for the front passenger. Switchgear, including the fighter-jet-esque starter button, is distributed along the length of the centre console.

Each occupant sits in a thin, frame-like bucket seat, with the rear pair capable of folding over their bases – albeit not flat – to increase cargo space. Practicality appears to have been a key element of the Lanzandor’s brief: the leaked images appear to show an ample space beneath the hatchback boot, as well as a frunk capable of swallowing a specially-made set of overnight bags.

A limited number of Lanzandors will be sold, in similar fashion to the Sián which previewed the design and technology of the upcoming Revuleto hypercar.

The long-awaited electric Lamborghini is here. Five years since the landmark introduction of the transformative Urus SUV, the supercar firm is once again entering a new segment with a dramatic four-seat GT called the Lanzador.

Shown as a concept at Monterey Car Week in California and five years out from its scheduled launch, the Lanzador is a rakish tworow supercar with a similar footprint to that of the Porsche Taycan, but it sits higher from the ground in a bid for enhanced “versatility”.

The model has been conceived as a bridge between the Urus and the company’s line-up of traditional mid-engined supercars. The concept is said to be a “concrete vision” of Lamborghini’s next new model line, which aims to stay true to the company’s DNA by offering what the firm calls “best-in-class sportiveness and fun-to-drive character”.

Four-seater, 1,350bhp ‘ultra-GT’ is part SUV, part super-saloon, launches in 2028

Is it an SUV? Is it a saloon on stilts? No! The Landazor is something entirely new, says Lamborghini, an ‘Ultra-GT’ designed to draw a link between the Urus and its supercars. The good news? It still looks like a Lambo – full of anger and angles – albeit one that’s been stretched and lifted into a shockingly different shape.

Oh, and it’s all-electric. Did we forget to mention that? Yep, this is the fabled fourth model that will join Revuelto, Urus and the Huracán replacement (all of which will be plug-in hybrids by the end of 2024) with first deliveries currently scheduled for 2028. Which is a hell of a wait, but CEO Stephan Winkelmann definitely isn’t umming and erring on this one, it’s locked in, a “concrete preview of the production vehicle” we’re told.

So it’s a concept, officially, but we know a thinly-veiled showroom model when we see one, especially when the press release is jammed with juicy details. Like the fact it’ll have two e-motors, one on each axle, and produce over a megawatt of power – circa 1,350bhp in old money. It’ll deploy rear-wheel steering, self-levelling air-suspension and a “new generation high-performance battery, which also ensures a long range", effuses the press release, exactly how long isn’t clear. We ask and Winkelman suggests 300-miles is a minimum these days, we suspect 400 will be nearer the mark five years from now.

The entirely new platform will be shared with other high-end VW Group EVs, but tuned by Lambo, which opens up a world of possibilities says chief technical officer Rouven Mohr. “We are taking Lamborghini integrated driving dynamics control to a whole new level, which has not been possible for production sports cars before and offers our customers a completely new driving experience," he says referring to the newly-developed Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Integrata (LDVI) driving dynamics control.

Lamborghini unveiled Lanzador concept at the 2023 Monterey Car Week, a concrete vision of a future purely-electric fourth series production Lamborghini. The Lanzador concept car introduces a high ground-clearance GT with 2+2 seats, featuring clear, purist and technical forms, with a brand-new concept in terms of performance and unprecedented on-board experience, staying true to Lamborghini's unmistakable DNA and offering best-in-class sportiveness and fun-to-drive character.

The concept car fits in with the Italian super sports company's "Direzione Cor Tauri" strategy and its roadmap towards decarbonization and electrification announced in 2021: following presentation of the V12 plug-in hybrid Revuelto, the Lanzador gives an insight into the series model to be built from 2028. "With the fourth model concept, we are opening a new car segment: the Ultra GT. This will offer customers a new, unparalleled Lamborghini driving experience thanks to pioneering technologies," said Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini.

The concept car combines the inherent performance of a Lamborghini super sports car with an enhanced fun-to-drive personality, plus the versatility of a car that is drivable daily: the Lanzador creates an original driving experience for a rising cluster of 'tech forerunner' customers.

Automobili Lamborghini committed more than two years ago to presenting a high-performance, electrified Lamborghini within this decade that remains true to the heart and soul of the brand. The all-electric concept car is a Gran Turismo with a surprising body style, entirely new proportions and unparalleled on-board experience via new infotainment features, and a pure design combining ultra high-performance elements of the Revuelto super sports car and the animated versatility of an Urus.

The Lanzador Concept, the first-ever all-electric Lamborghini, made an unscheduled appearance online ahead of its grand debut during Monterey Car Week. Whoever said "patience is a virtue" clearly didn't have access to leaked images of cutting-edge cars.

So, what's the scoop on this two-door crossover supercar? First off, it's got the looks. By which we mean it combines the sass of Lamborghini's supercar lineup with the ruggedness of an SUV. Think of it as the love child between the Urus SUV and the edgy Huracan Sterrato, with just a sprinkle of the 2008 Estoque concept for good measure. It's like Lamborghini threw all its best design elements into a blender and out came this sleek electric cocktail.

Can we talk about that interior? Someone at Lamborghini HQ must've watched one too many sci-fi movies. The dashboard looks like it's been ripped straight from a spaceship, boasting futuristic displays and a central console that makes us wonder if it comes with its own extraterrestrial manual.

While some fans might cringe at the thought of a fully-electric Lamborghini, CEO Stephan Winkelmann insists that the newcomer will employ pioneering technologies to give clients a “new, unparalleled Lamborghini driving experience.”

Revealed at the Monterey Car Week in California over the weekend, the Lamborghini Lanzador concept is described as a high ground-clearance GT car with 2+2 seating.

While you might say that’s just a fancy way of describing an SUV or crossover, the Lanzador concept does appear more low-slung and sportscar like than the firm’s actual SUV, the Urus.

While very much usable as an everyday car, Lamborghini says it brings no compromises when it comes to overall driving pleasure.

In essence, the Lanzador is Lamborghini's love letter to electricity. It’s jam-packed with two electric motors – one for each axle. While this ensures all-wheel drive, it also promises efficiency across all terrains and driving styles. The peak power? Just a bit over a megawatt. Who's even counting, right? We already have plenty of +1,000 hp EVs out there, so we wouldn't expect Lamborghini to lag behind.
