Hello,

looking for a cheap router thing that has 5 ports for a lan we are going to have. We all connect to it with highspeed cables...

no any cheap ones from prophecy or landmark?

you're looking for a switch. As for cheap ones at Prophecy and Landmark, surely you can look yourself?

is that what i need a switch?

i thought i need a router... k thanks gonna go look

Don't be such a miser. Doesn't sound lazy to me, possibly a little insecure about what he should be looking for and that's why he asked on here.

Yep - a switch - you could use a router but they cost more.

Not to be rude but if you didn't know that you may have a few problems ahead of you. If things don't work 'out of the box' so to speak when you set it all up think about setting up the IP addresses yourselves. Make sure that you all are within the same range 192.168.0.x (where x is unique per player) and that you are all on the same subnet mask 255.255.255.0. You may need to look at your firewalls too. Get this sorted sooner rather than later because there is nothing more frustrating than trying to lan and spending half the day setting up the network - and make sure all your mates have the games already installed and that you are all on the same patch level.

LOL. I sure hope you bought Monster CAT-5 cable at R150 per metre. Apparently it allows you to reach higher speeds since it can only be plugged into 1Gbps over the traditional 100 Mbps 'cheap ones'. (They do mention something about different NICs but that's insignificant)...

R105 p/m !? Damn that is expensive!

When I was in Namibia, I bought a 22m cable at R20 a metre

I went to my local supplier and bought CAT5e for R3.50/m the other day. CAT5e is CAT5e, I don't care what Monster says, their cable isn't any better than the cheapo stuff. Actually, when it comes to Monster, the cheapo stuff's sometimes even better :p

From this post one can come to no conclusion, it could mean several things. You need to be more descriptive and provide details.

It was satirical of OP's post :p Not that I've seen any Monster CAT-5.
