Hi there. I'm looking in building myself a good LAN pc. this is what I came up with so far

P45 c%! DDR3 Mobo
Club3d radeon 4770
intel Q8400
Apacer 4GB DDR3 (2x2GB)
Seagate 500GB
DVD Writer
Corsair vx450w PSU
Cooler master Hyper n520 CPU cooler

This all adds up to R6514.6 so only need case now.

Can you guys please tell me if this will be worth it or must I stick with my current systems for LAN. I usually go to lans about 1 - 2 times per month. the whole idea is to just pick it up and go.

my current system is
Q9450
5x HDD
DVD Writer
MSI GTX280
cooler master cm690
zalman cnps 9700
corsair tx650w

I don't want to fork out all the money if it's not going to be worth it. I can use that money on something else or maybe even save it.

Dude... the new ATI graphics cards have just been released, and I think they are releasing the HD 5770 and HD 5750 next month. Just hold out a little while ;). Otherwise I think that system is pretty decent :D, but maybe check that the PSU unit will be able to take the strain (maybe go for a nice 550 watt... just to make sure it doesn't clonk out on you in a year or two).

I would rather go for a cheap core 2 tbh, quad core aint needed for a LAN PC, everything else seems good, btw what screen are you going to use with the LAN PC?

+1 but I thinks his power supply is pretty good

Depends what games his playing

Newer games are starting to make use of quad cores

With that 4770 being 45nm it doesnt use that much power, his Corsair vx450w PSU will be more than enough imo

I'm not talking about now, I'm thinking more about in a year or two... think about it... In a year he might want to get a new graphics card... and I know people usually leave the rest of a lan pc to rot, and that's just want the PSU does. After 2 years, it'll lose 20-30 percent capacitance, which will cause issues. rather spend and extra R200-R300 now, then have to shell out R600 later on

it's 40nm and the PSU will be sufficient. Corsair PSUs can output more than what they are rated at and maintain the efficiency they're rated at (so for example if 80% efficiency, when outputting 550w it will maintain that efficiency)

Why get this system when you have a better system already?

And what is ur budget?

Why not get something like a 2nd hand HD4890 to match ur GTX280?

The Corsair 450w is more than enough, since its ur lan pc, u will only use this pc mostly at lans right? Then power efficiency isnt what you're gonna be worried about, 450w is more than enough :D

And for a case, just get something light and with a handle

The problem is that I want a system for just lans but 2 times a month is maybe not enough. I can easily spend that money on a nice headset, keyboard. What do you guys think?
