Are you referring to public and tertiary specifically?

Or referring to studies as a percentage of income rather than outright cost?

The cost of teaching has gone down, but the cost of tertiary education keeps going up. This is because public Universities are very slow at adapting new technologies. They are very soon going to find themselves competing with online courses that are worth the quality. Solidarity’s Akademia for example managed to cut the costs significantly by using modern IT technologies. Information itself is getting really cheap but for some reason the bubble keeps on expanding.

I think you will find the largest cost comes with the research component in public institutions, something which Akademia isn't really doing.

All those journal subscriptions, university archives, scientific equipment costs a lot of money and is part of something most private universities and online courses don't offer as part of the package.

I agree, there is a but of a publishing industrial complex going on. In Europe most Universities have relationships with private laboratories and pure basic research is done at institutions such as CERN. This allows them to separate the research and teaching arm. South Africa has mixed the two up. Our costs are going up, I am not so sure that the quality is going up with it.

Oh my bad, misunderstood cost of teaching as cost of education.

But yeah I agree people look at the tablet phenomenon as a major cost in schools and such but it replaces books and makes so many other things so much simpler, faster and more convenient.

No more nonsense like teachers taking work home to mark and all that kind of crap either.
