just set up my first proper 'gaming' laptop
Lenovo Y580
I7 3630QM
Geforce 660M
8GB ram
1920x1080 res
win8 x64

Was celebrating with a bit of prototype 2 today some things I`d like to mention

Event 1
Cpu Was running around 1.75-2ghz(underclocked under power options)
Gpu was stock

I was getting 25-30fps @ around 40-50% gpu usage

Switched to high performance (which pushed it to 3,1ghz)
I think this is some kind of turbo thing

Fps jumped to 40-50 @ 70% gpu usage

I assume cpu @ 1.75 would be a bottleneck?

Event 2
Under High performance and gaming max temps were following
CPU 89c
GPU 80c

Under Balanced/Power saver (around 2ghz cpu) max temps were
CPU 76c
GPU 70ish

I`m not too familiar with laptop parts,is that normal?

Also Is it fair to assume that they used crap stock TIM?
in which case I`d replace with some decent stuff

I dont know if this may be any use to you as reference, I am sorting stuff on my old MacBook Pro to move to the other one.
Right now Safari & Firefox are running and a 200MB video clip is being converted from .flv to .mov
So aside from the video conversion happening, the machine is pretty idle - so here are the temps:

yep cooling pad as suggested above .

All decent laptops i had before ,was hot without a pad , except my current envy 14 , love having 2 exhaust fans built in , im maxing 70c cpu/gpu :)

Those temps are a little high, consider grabbing one of those cooling pads for laptops.
yeah, problem was my cpu was turboing to 3.1Ghz which insanely heated up everything
I`m on balanced which is 2Ghz now :)
I`m definitly getting a cooling pad too

nice.... took it apart last night and re did the TIM for both GPU and CPU,lenovo put waaay too much :(
too bad the shared heatsink is smaller than my finger...

cpu Idle dropped by 10c to 35
Gpu dropped by 8c to 30
HDD dropped by 15c :erm:

Though it could be other variables too...
but the TIM really helped
got pics of dissasembly if people want

Laptops are prone to dust... Dust clogs up vents and heat sinks which makes things hot... Just a thought hey :) Vacuums do help!
