Hi,
I have come across an interesting issue. I have a Packard Bell Easynote B3410 laptop with battery BP-8050 (P), 14.8V, 2000mAH, which has packed up.

All the replacements available show BP-8050 at 11.1V and then higher capacities. The suppliers all confirm that it will work, but I am a bit wary.

Does anyone know if this laptop will run off a 11.1V battery??

I tried contacting Packard Bell in the RSA, but their email does not work and their fax gets answered as a phone although these are shown on their website.
Thanks

Assuming your notebook actually NEEDS 14.8V, it may work, but will suck at it. Alternatively, it may not work. Generally, the "rated" output of the battery is a bit above what the notebook actually needs.

You should also have a look at the current ratings, as this is more of a problem than the voltage ratings

I have browsed many battery suppliers and only their BP-8050, 2000mAH batteries are 14.8V (usually 4 cells), but all the larger capacity batteries 4400mAH (6 cells) show 11.1V

A couple of the suppliers have confirmed that their records only show 11.1 Volt for the batteries for my Easynote B4310, but I am a bit wary of that info.

Unfortunately I cannot get a 11.1V battery to test with, without buying one and nearly R1000 to find out it does not work is not too attractive at this moment.

Well if the supplier is a reputable supplier, their assurance that it will work means that they will have to refund you if it doesn't

You are right there, but I would rather like to avoid anything like that and be sure I am ordering the correct item.

I am hoping that any users of the Easynote B3410 with such a battery may be able to confirm its use.

Someone who repairs these may also know, it may be that the input voltage from the battery is regulated on the MB to a lower running voltage and is i.e. brought down to 10 or 9 volts and then the input voltage can be either 11.1 or 14.8. thus allowing 4 cell and 6 cell batteries to be used?? I am just guessing here.
