Got a new toshiba netbook/laptop recently but haven't really been using it all that regularly. Something that has come up though is that the battery seems to run flat without any use. I'm 100% sure the laptop is shut down as opposed to sleep mode and basically if I leave it in its bag for 1-2 days it will be at 80% battery. Eventually it seems to reach 0% but not quite sure of the rate it declines :P

I'm assuming this is not "normal" right?

It should be able to sleep for a few days. this is because it keeps a bit of memory ready to roll when you flip the lid. If you put it to hibernate, it will write state to disk and basically nearly shut down. A laptop can hibernate for weeks or more.

charge the laptop & keep it running til it's almost flat /goes flat. See how long it runs for..

You don't need to stress it just play solitaire, browse the web or something.

@ stricken: i think u've misread. the laptop has shut down but the battery is still running flat

after running the test to see how long the laptop's battery lasts:

remove battery
run with mains only , do this for about 5min
plug battery in again while power still in.

This should clear the battery's memory.

Then repeat test on how long the battery lasts...
