Laptop battery

I always plug the power adapter when I am at home, will this reduce the battery's life?
What you always do about this?

hasn't killed mine in two and a half years! :p Still going strong! ;)

but just to be safe drain the battery and fully recharge once every 6 months. And then physically unplug the battery every now and then.

Some people remove the battery and run the laptop directly off the wall-socket if they are at home. It is said to help w/ battery lifespan...but I dunno.

In general, a lithium ion battery performs best with some charge (but not fully charged). This will supposedly increase the life of the battery. The theory behind it is solid, but I've never tested it (never had two of the same that I could try different methods on). If you unplug your battery from your notebook for storage purposes, you should have about 50% - 80% charge on it and store it in a cool, dry place.

To me that would be madness - esp in SA. I probably do a deep discharge every few months but its rarely intentional.

Read my post again...was a bit ambiguous. By "it" I meant the laptop.

i.e. Remove battery from laptop and then connect laptop to the wall socket.

ETA: fixed above post.

And Eskom comes along and does its thing and then what do you have? I knew exactly what you meant I just dont believe its a good idea at all - at least not for the sake of a battery.

I doubt that the laptop battery will save your laptop. afaik laptops work more like off-line UPS than on-line UPSs.

Maybe someone here knows how the interaction between the laptop & battery & power cable is handled?
