Hi guys,

need some help. Recently my laptop started to freeze right after start-up.

Windows 7 opens normally, I can see the desktop. But a minute or so later the cursor will still show it is reading something. Then later it freezes completely. The mouse cursor can still move.

I have done a disk scan, clean boot, etc. and nothing works so far. When starting in safe mode with networking, no issues.

Should I prepare to start from scratch?

Did you install any new applications/drivers recently?

What you can do is to boot in Safe Mode and disable unnecessary applications that run on startup, by disabling them with 'msconfig' application. msconfig allow you to easily disable startup applications and also to re-enable them again.

Hi Pada,

The only new installations have been windows updates and MSE. Initially I had Norton (Free 90 day version) on and had issues. I read on the forums that the latest windows updates had issues with Norton, hence I uninstalled it. Hence, I installed MSE.

I have uninstalled MSE in safe mode, but the problem still persists.

Using msconfig, I have hidden MS applications and disabled the rest. Still having the same issue.

What is confusing me is the fact that I can perform all function in safe mode with networking. This how I was able to post on the forum.

Do you use Chrome and is it open when your laptop freezes?

Hi,

yes I do use Chrome. Not always. I have tried using IE, but the same problem exists.

It is as if it keeps loading something. Even after 10 minutes of leaving it alone.

I was having major issues with my display drivers on Windows 7. It was freezing for ages and eventually started giving me BSOD. A simple update of driver sorted it out. You could be having memory problems or even rogue processes that are hogging your CPU usage.

Problem with driver or with accessing system disk. Do full surface scan and meassure delays. MHDD (DOS) Victoria (DOS or Vindows), TestDisk(?) (Windows). The best when booting from Hiren's boot CD. If not getting delays 500ms or bigger, it it not hard drive, then try checkdisk with system option.
