Not all laptops have upgradeable graphics cards!
My Dell Inspiron 9400/E1705 does have a PCI-E graphics card that you can replace, but at $300-$400 for a graphics card that would give me less performance than a desktop one going for R1000.

The laptop has switchable graphics according to those specs,you sure you not just running on the onboard GPU rather than the 310M?

AFAIK you cannot upgrade that laptop's graphics card, so I'd guess that you're just using the onboard Intel graphics card - like Tun@ said.
