I am stumped with some laptop harddrives. When i connect ide to usb convertor on some harddrives and plug it in as a external, the drivers load and windows finds the disk,i can then explore the drive in my computer...simple hey:)NOT:(
SOme drives will load and windows will say its installed and ready but in my computer there is nothing...why is this(forget about the jumper setting if there is any).

I tried disk management tools but to no avail. Can someone please explain this to me as i am stumped.COuld these drives be faulty you may ask......well when i plug these drives in a laptop they are fine:mad:
I have tried these drives on xp/vista/windows7 and still i dont see them

Perhaps the new drive has the same drive letter as a disk currently installed on your system?

when you plug in a usb device it loads the drivers first found in system folder or temp i think. Then it locates the id number of the device and displays the name right.

You mean it automatically loads the USB storage port driver (usbstor.sys), when any usb device that is compliant with the Universal Serial Bus (USB) Mass Storage Class Specification is plugged in....

I just wanted to ensure that you were not loading any of the vendors USB transport drivers...

Can you list the drive make/models (so we can look at @ RBC protocol problems etc)

Perhaps the enclosure is faulty?? What OS are you using (Quickly running out of ideas!)
