Laptop not turning on

the laptop was working fine (while playing a game) then just switched off. it wont go on again. it does not want to charge although the charger itself is plugged in and working.

its an asus laptop, about 2years old.

celeron M @ 1.86Ghz
512 MB ram
60GB hdd
XP

please help guys, am clueless when it comes to laptops

Mmmm... does it work without the battery or should it work without it?

Leave it for 10 minutes to cool down. Some laptops are sensitive to heat and automatically switch off if they get too hot.

just tested without batt and works fine off the mains, damn seems the batt went to heaven

try putting battery back & then see what it does.

never mind, fixed. seems the battery had its monthly period. thanks for the input though

edit: for whomever needs to know, took batt out to test if it would work on mains, and it did. then held in the power button for about a min, put batt back and worked

sometimes batteries hold a memory if the laptop switched off becoz battery flat. Doing what you did resets the battery.
