Howzit guys

I currently have my laptop connected to the power whenever Im at home, and only take it off charge when I need to use it elewhere.

1. Will this damage the battery?
2. If i disconnect the laptop from the inverter, and leave the inverter plugged in, is this still drawing power?

Thanks in advance

1. It's not supposed to damage a lithium-ion battery. It is very dangerous for a lithium-ion battery to be over-charged, so there is built-in protection to prevent this. If over-charging DOES occur, it implies a malfunction of the battery's overcharge protection circuit. But bear in mind that a lithium ion battery is at its happiest between 25% and 75%.

2. I assume you mean the "power brick"? Yes it still draws some power.

It's natural for a lithium ion battery to lose capacity over time, used or not.

It is also WAY more dangerous for a lithium-ion battery to become completely flat. This means that there is no power for the protection circuitry!

Thanks for the replies

Im assuming that the best way to increase the lifespan of the battery is to remove the power and allow the battery to discharge and recharge.

If I went for convenience and leave it charging all the time, would there be significant damage to the battery or is this a problem with older types of batteries only?

The newer lithium ion batteries are not as fussy as the old ones, I've left my laptop plugged in practically 24/7 for the last 9 months and it's barely lost 2% of its capacity. And fully discharging and charging every time will actually damage you battery. A full discharge (less than 1% battery remaining) should only be done once a month or so.

Just keep it charged as long as it's kept cool, regular charging (plugging/unplugging) is good for the battery but not good for the charging circuit on mobo.

And yes the power brick will draw like 2watts of power...for the circuit and LED light.

Once the battery level reaches fully charged state, power to the laptop is then supplied directly fom the adaptor. You can actually remove the battery in this state, so no harm or overscharging is possible.

Its Good to let it discharge once a while to re calibrate the battery by 1st turning off hibernation and then letting the laptop slowly discharge and give it a full charge
