Hi,

I know this isnt a gamming topic...but i am looking at buying a laptop however, i am on a budget. What laptop would you recommend that has a good price/performance ratio?

All it really need to handle is photoshop, and at times apache....

if u had the money I would say dell xps gen 2. I have seen the performance on it and it compares to alienware. I use a dell inspiron 8100 with no problem on playing some older games and for work it is a great laptop. Dont think dell is a bad laptop. But then it changes from peson to preson what they want to use !

have a look at the Compaq Pressario r3000z stock or with upgrades, decently priced and really good all over.

There are more considerations to take into account than just price.. what about product support and notebook specifications.

I believe the machine you are talking about is either the VIA processor based machine (HORRIBLE!!!) or the entry level Benq, neither of which I'd really recommend.

What do you do if you pick up problems with the machine.. wait 3 months while Hi-Fi corp try and figure out which country they imported the thing from? or what a notebook is and wtf they are selling the stuff?

ummm they buy the laptop from esquire dont they? which is locally based?

im pretty sure they dont import laptop, if they did break how on earth would they fix it?

via processor is not bad if you on a budget

yes i know they buy from esquire... but the service levels are still shocking. Most people can't afford to wait weeks without a notebook while Hi-Fi corp takes their sweet bloody time to have the machine repaired.

I was j/k about the import thing seeing as half their products are grey imports to begin with :p

The VIA processor is ok if you want to run _ONE_ office app at a time, but looking at other offerings which are not that much more expensive it's definately not worth buying a VIA machine.

well went to incredible connection today and have decided to get the following machine on the weekend:
Acer Aspire 3002LC
-AMD Semphron 2800+
-40GB HDD
-256MB RAM
-DVD/CRDW
-10/100 Lan/modem
-Wireless lan :)
-Bluetooth :)
-Windows XP Home
-R5999

I think thats a good deal...what you think?
