Hello Everyone...

I hope there is someone out there that can maybe help me out with this!
So I got myself laptop on this Telkom bundle... It is a Toshiba Satellite L300!

Okay now the thing is I don't like the fact that installs Vista and then all the other programs with it! I want to everything from scratch meaning, installing Vista first then my drivers etc and then my programs I want and not what they give you!

Now what I want to know is that I have created those Recovery disks but I want to know when you run the recovery disk can you select just to install Vista or is it gonna restore the laptop with Vista and then all the programs etc?

I do have a Vista key that came on the laptop? Maybe I can get a cope of the Vista from someone and use my key, or is that illegal?

Any input will be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

It will probably recreate the Vista as it was at time of recovery disk creation.

What you can do is buy a program like Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost, clean up your Vista install and then make an image of that. Then you can restore THAT image instead of the factory image (which will have all the OEM adware).

Ja I probably can do that but the thing is, it installs Mcafee and I don't like that all, and then goes and create a place in the registry and basically everywhere! If you uninstall the program ye sthen the program is off but still remains in registry and leaves folders behind etc

You may have to manually remove the junk then?
Look for 3rd party apps to remove McAfee products.

Oh if you have Vista Business, you get a free 'downgrade' to XP. So you may want to do that.

It isnt just Mcafee that bothers me there is lots of unused programs!

Thanks for your input though! If I can just get a vista cd and work from that it will be fine but I don't know i fit is illegal to get a copy from someone and use my key

Don't worry you have the legal key. That is all that counts btw. I did this on my HP G7000 laptop. However you will need to find someone who has a Vista Ultimate CD as it has all the versions of Vista on it.

Place the disc in, and boot from it etc. Then type in your product key, install it. Then when you have to activate it, call Microsoft and follow the voice prompts.

Works like a charm and this way no extra bundled rubbish

Okay thanks a lot for the answer, think that is what I'm going to do!
Now I just have to find someone who has the Ultimate or just Home Premium... Sighs!

Will have to be on the Ultimate Disc as it has all the versions. Including OEM (O think called DSP these days)

Someone with a Home Premium it will not work, as it does not include a OEM copy of Home Premium, I hope that makes sense.

Which area do you live in?

Riaan,

You can always put that recovery disk you created through vLite, http://www.vlite.net/

Remove all unused applications & windows components.
Remove the unused languages.
Remove all printer drivers.
Remove all network drivers except the one used by your PC.
Remove all unused network protocols.
Slipstream service pack.
Check if you want to automate/customise some installation options.

Aditionally, not always good as things get out of date:
Slipstream all the drivers for your hardware.
Slipstream software you want.

You end up with one lean install cd at the end of this process, installation time is also cut down.

Okay so I went an download that Vlite, but now I first gotta download this Automated Installation Kit from the Windows sit which is over 1Gb!

So the Vlite isnt a option anymore...

Anyone got any other ideas?
