Hi everyone.

I have a gigabyte laptop that has died. There is no power, when you press the on button nothing happens so I assume there is something wrong with the power delivery. Is there anyone on the forum that repairs laptops. I would like to have a quote first before I decide to repair or replace.
West rand, northern suburbs area.

Thanks in advance.

Out of warranty.

Remove the battery and try power on the laptop again - does it come on or not?
Also, unplug the charger, then plug it in, see if there is a 'charger light' - does it come on or not?
Charging cables, any damages to them? (look at it carefully)

Removed the battery and plug in, nada. (already done)
Used another power supply/charger, nada. (already done)
If there is a charger light it does not go on with either.
Yes I did check the ratings for both, amps provided is spot on.
Power supply/charging cables are fine.

could be a board fault or could be that the PSU jack is loose on the MB.

I suggest you ask around and get quotes regarding the above two options.

Then decide if you will repair/replace.

call first and ask for indicative prices first as many places charge a inspection or opening fee....

I don't know anyone near Roodepoort hey whom can do a more indepth look.
I'm sure someone can help here... or at least, will PM you with guidance.

simplest test if internal jack is loose, without opening...

plug in the charger, to laptop. Is there only a lil play (some do), or is there a lot of play if you wriggle the cable(while plugged in). Hold the cable where it enters the LT when doing the above. If it is very loose then it is a charging jack issue (could also be MB). If it is firm, or barely loose then probably/possibly MB.

Sometimes it is cost effective to repair PSU port, sometimes not.

MB replacement can at times be more costly than rwplacing the LT.

If buying new, buy an external enclosure, insert old HDD, use as an external storage drive after copying your data to the new device.

I have what is left of a gigabyte laptop (in pieces), it was a parlatone one that kalahari had on special, anyhow the board and cpu still work, not the screen, that was the problem, so I sort of ripped it open because ..ok no reason, I just did.
anyhow spares available if its the same thing:)

Thanks all. I found someone in kya sands that will look at it for me. Once I have a verdict I can decide. Thanks for the help.

The hdd gets backed up regularly so I am not going to lose any data. But I might have a spare laptop hdd if I replace the laptop. So might still put it in an enclosure as a spare.

I will try the jack test tonight but from memory last night it was fairly stable, not loose at all.

Deep Blue Mobile is where we send all our clients' out of warranty notebooks. They are reasonably priced and sell generic batteries and charges at a very good price.

They are in Midrand
