Laptop too old for Linux?

i installed Ubuntu on a HP Compaq nx7010 but I can't seem to install any applications from the software thingy... Is the computer too old?

Unless it is a PII then you are set and good to go.

What errors do you get when you try and install something?

Use the terminal and try installing from it:
sudo apt-get install firefox

See if that works.

Oh great now it's working!

Yesterday the installer said something about cannot be done or something....

EDIT: I go to Ubuntu Software Centre...
