For storage I think you can fit any size you wish. Your only issue is if your laptop will allow the SSD to perform at maximum (port compatibility)

How will i know if it will perform at maximum speed

For example my Sony VAIO doesn't allow the Samsung EVO 850 to perform at maximum , see screenshot. You just need to google what SATA port/interface you have. BTW, even though my laptop doesn't allow the SSD to perform at max, it is still bloody fast !

As you didn't provide sufficient information to your OS and chipset, I'd like to add few things to consider. Consider SSD only if you have the following:

1. Intel chipset Core 2 Duo or later working in AHCI mode. Older chipsets, not sure. For AMD must check specific chipset compatibility.

2. Operating system with native support for SSD and TRIM. In Windows we talk about Win7 or later, file system NTFS. TRIM is essential to reduce wearing.

If your PC/OS don't comply with above, SSD will not work for long or you won't get maximum performance. In such case a hybrid drive is better option.

It would help to know the model number of your laptop or even it's age, eg. less than 1 year old should be able to have the SATA3 port for fastest SSD performance, for example my Samsung 850 EVO SSD seems to be happy with the SATA3 port (Have it partitioned to match the previous HDD):

This thread might help you: https://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/861460-Idiot-s-guide-to-laptop-upgrades

Don't get too carried away by the technical side, so long as your laptop is reasonably new (i.e. bought in the last three years and has Windows 7 or better as the operating system) I don't think you'll go wrong with an SSD. All you really need to do is just search for your laptop model number and "SSD upgrade" on Youtube and see if anybody else has posted a handy video showing the exact process for your machine.

Before I went ahead and purchased my SSD, I just unscrewed the back of my laptop to double-check that I could pop out my laptop's old hard drive and that there was nothing "funny". Good thing too, it helped me discover the spare memory slot so I could upgrade my RAM at the same time :)

Thats fine, I wanted to add comment about upgrading RAM first, minimum 4GB for Windows 7 to reduce swapping, but you came first. :)
