Laptop vs PC

If you can add another 2 or 3K, you can get a decent gaming laptop already. I have a gaming laptop, and although I could have gotten a lot more if I bought a desktop, all the games I play are on max.

Laptop. Portable, has a battery. You already have a desktop for everything else and can always upgrade it later.

Edit: You could actually have some bit of change after grabbing a not bad laptop

Geforce GT820? That's literally no faster than the built-in HD Graphics. You won't be doing much gaming with that.

But he can still game on his desktop he already has the platform for everything else that's heavy. A laptop would introduced portable computing to his gadgetry and if the laptop comes with a Geforce that wouldn't hurt

Well, a decent "work" type laptop with an HD 4600 will literally be faster than that, so I'd suggest something like that then. Or just an ultrabook if he already has a gaming box.

Bottom line of my point is a laptop is a good idea as it introduces something new to his collection :)

Firstly it won't be a "work" laptop - I already have a work laptop - its tiny and I'm scared of breaking it/ being mugged by travelling with it daily.

The 12k is a "personal computer" benefit.

Will probably be more for movies than games so I guess Screen>GPU

Jusr buy a huge 60" Plasma TV then, sorted.

For someone who complains about their job as much as you do, you sure get some schweet benefits

A 'personal computer benefit'? How do I sign up for one of these? What does the company intend you to do with this money?

If it's JUST for you, go PC.

I want to work for your company, seriously.

Out of the box suggestion, if you already have a decent TV- why not get a console and build an HTPC with the remainder of the money, considering that your primary uses of this benefit is for gaming and movies? Your old PC can still do the internet fine, I'd imagine, and you have already noted that portability is not important.
