My friend gave me his fathers laptop to look at. Its a Lenovo ideapad s10, when I power it on the screen is completely black.

Nothing no POST screen nothing, I tried connecting a monitor to it, nothing. I have removed the ram and hdd and still nothing not even a beep from the motherboard, tried removing the battery for a while still nothing, I'm not sure what else to try. I'm thinking the gpu is dead cause I can hear all the other hardware spinning up just no display. Anyone have any suggestions?

Considering it's age, I'd let it die peacefully. It plainly wants to.

Thanks guys, I thought it was going to come to that

My Acer had that problem which is common on them. No matter what I tried I couldn't fix it. I've just taken out hard drive, ram sticks and wifi card to reuse.

I also had an Acer, but the Aspire One that did the whole blank screen when pressing power. After lots of research I found out that it was the BIOS that was corrupted.Got instructions to load BIOS file to a flash drive and with a certain key combination one could reflash the BIOS.

Don't know if there is anything like that for Lenovo though.

This is the link for the Acer though.See if you can find something similar for your Lenovo model?

WiFi module is b/g. One 'b/g' on the network will slow down all your 'n' devices.

@OP Check if your power supply is operational. Battery could be already flat. Also try with battery removed.
