Laser Detector / Mobile Speed Camera Band

i think that one really needs to get to just below 140 to absorb the fine. what is that fine amount anyway? It must be about R1k for a 120 zone. i travel at 140 also in areas where the view is obscured otherwise upto 150-160 in open areas.

OK, so then I'll definately have a fine waiting for me in Wolmeranstad coz in Dec I blasted down the N12 and about 10km's outside Wollies I was doing 200kph pushing cars otu the way, it was fun but obviously wrong, i submit to wrongdoing - ...

At that speed, if they did trap you, you wont get a fine. You will go straight to jail...better ask the wife to pack the K-Y jelly :p

LOL - that's what's bugging me...the moment I saw the taxi guy wave as he was approaching me I stomped...they were obviously trapping them(going) and not oncoming that's why he saw them - and they would have stopped me if I was doing 200kph and I they cought me on speed camera!

i dont know of anyone getting a 200km/h ticket in the mail. anyone?

Anyone heard this rumour that the trafiss are developing a NEW camera which will be able to detect your speed over dipps, around corners, farther away compared to current devices...

so if you are doing 160 in a 120 zone 4 km's away from where the traffis are sitting and there are 4 bends between you and the Metro...they'll still get you???

myth or reality?

There is already a device that works out your average speed over a distance. At the first offramp it takes a picture with a timestamp, then at the next one it takes another and compares the time, it then works out your average speed and can fine you accordingly.

IMHO this is the best method, its unmaned and works over a long distance, its also fair as its permanent and you know about it.

oh ja, they prolly just scan all cars going thro' that point.

yep.

It works like this :

A video camera sits looking at the road. an attached computer, grabs frames and scans numberplates in real time and stores the plate and time it saw it on a central database ( i have no idea about the connection to this database, but knowing the UK its probably faster than anythign we have here )

At some point during the day a another program runs through the central database and works the time take for a numberplate to be seen by any two camera's. Knowing the distance between these two it knows when youve exceeded the limit.

The system does store the pictures of the images it processed, but becasue it knows within a day which to keep and which to toss, it dont need a huge amount of storage. It does not measure youre speed at the time the photo is taken. It does use lines in the road to determine your exact position ( although i think that is overkill ) In most cases the camera sits slap bang in the middle of the lanes ( big yellow box - cant miss it - attached to bridge going over the road.... )

In SA you might get away with an illegible numberplate, but in the UK youre gonna pay a huge fine....

PS - the numberplate identification system is already deployed in SA. you might have seen them at some roadblocks over the holidays.

Holy phuk! I thought u supposed to get locked up for that or pay like R25k or both!!!

I think it depends where they catch you. But cmon man, the road to JNB is so flippen boring, nothing to look at. I have to speed.

Edit. Will see at the next raod block. They might just lock me up.

NOOOOO fank GOD KSINGH you misled me, made me worry all day about K Y JELLY!

New update!!!!!

I use Cobra. I bought the entry level one from autostyle and it works a charm. Piad R800 and reckon I have had a return of investment ten fold!

I am still unsure whether it is legal so i pull it off the dash if i come up to a roadblock.

it will only go off if the cop points the laser directly at your car. if they are not manning the "gun" it wont go off as they need to squeeze a trigger on the actual gun.

only downside is radar "x" which is painful in town and city, but then all you do is hit the "city" switch and it will not buzz for radar

dont buy from autostyle they have outdated laser scanner the one to get is the cobra xrs 9965 and above awesome detection with build in gps the way to go see demo on utube!!!!!!!

What are you guys using atm to avoid traffic fines?
I'm using an app called Cameralert on my Android. Works pretty well, but one needs to subscribe @ 20 Pounds for 12 months to receive up to date databases...so my database is not up to date.
At least you get free 12 months if you report an eligible camera location.
