One more pearl of wisdom to add.... once you have your new registration certificate (which will now have your name as both owner and title holder), send a copy to your insurer/broker. There is usually something on your policy noting that the bank has an interest in the asset. Having that removed will avoid unnecessary red tape in the event that you write off the asset.

Thanks Bud but I have been in the insurance industry for 34yrs, own my own FSP and am a K.I.

But good info for the other viewers.

He must take it to "the roadworthy place in Menlyn Motor City", Pretoria East people will understand where that is, to do the transfer of ownership, capisce?

Would it have killed you to just say that without being a dick about it?

But it is what I said. Where was I a dick? Oh, I sure wanted to be a dick, but I decided against it, but scratch that idea. You're the one reading things into things, like that I said he must do a roadworthy and that I was a dick, or does the word capisce trigger you?

Would you say this to someone in real life?

I didn't say that, did I?

No, I don't think you would.

Getting back on track.

It's funny this thread popped up. I am too going to be settling my car end of this month (3 years early, woohoo!) and was uncertain about the do's and don'ts. I financed mine through Wesbank though, but the overall process should remain the same

It is the same process. Hopefully mine will be done this year too. End of September payment will be year 4 of the 6 year term

My old man always said the best car you can own is one that's paid off :)

Something that makes me wonder is if I were to have a small fine that may or may not yet have been paid, will this be an issue once I change the title holder at the traffic department? Asking for a friend :p

Outstanding fines no. Outstanding summons/warrants yes.

Usually the bank send you all the paperwork with required instructions when you settle.

So can literally just take that and fill it in and go queue.

Ja, PM me your phone number... :p

/kidding

Conflict can be avoided if you read carefully and don't read things into whatever was said :)

Or just don't be a dick and don't give snarky responses.

Guess that is difficult for you.

You will need a RWC though. But yes this.

Bank will send you the completed forms with copies of the ID's of the signatories of the bank. Take all that with the RWC to your local registration office and Bob's your uncle. Just take proof of address with you just in case also.

You do not need RWC for change of title holder

Source - I did mine 2 weeks ago.

No RWC, even me and Ancalagon (and Sinbad) can agree on this...
