This topic has been discussed before, but it involves a couple of Government departments so things might have changed.

I have just noticed that the license disc on one of my vehicles is several months overdue for renewal. Does it still work to go to the post office to renew it (possibly with a fine)?

Yeah you can - I've done it before.

You will have to pay more though I couldn't tell you how much though.

Yes, you will just have to pay the late penalties.

Don't forget to take your ID and Proof of Residence and copies of such.

Thanks. I don't mind the school fees since I had neglected to keep an eye on this. A bureaucratic nightmare is the thing I was worried about.

I just took my old disk in to the municipal licensing department (no ID or proof of address); was about 8 months overdue and they just seemed to charge me for the missed period and the year ahead.

I think with the whole debacle about them not sending out reminders to people, they may be a bit more lenient about things.

I was late before. Think the penalty (in CPT) was about R30 per month overdue. So you pay the penalty as well as the normal annual fee pro rata for how many months late you were. After that, add on the normal annual fee.
