There have been a lot of comments about the problem of high latency on broadband access (and presumably also backhaul, long distance and international links) for online gaming.

Can anybody out there provide some info on what latency is generally acceptable?

Depends on your game. For instance, sub 100ms on adsl is playable on battlefield 2, and anything above i think 500ms gets you kicked.

I wouldnt try play a game with a latency above 200ms... but the WoW chaps have no choice, so theyre always lagged.

In some games latency is not really that noticable. Take WoW as an example. I used to play a shaman. Now most people would agree that trying to interrupt a spell with a 500+ latency should be next to impossible, and yet I was able to do it quite effectively. Same thing with GuildWars. I used to play a mesmer, and I was always able to interrupt spells with a good success rate.

Well... lately peoples ping have gone crazy.... On WoW (local severs) a guy had 200 000 ping! My ping is low •touch wood•... I think some one at telkom tripped over a cable and they looking at the wrong section to fix it :D

Most FPS below 70
MMO's below 1000

Team Fortress two plays well on 100 - 200 :D trust me I have wireless!
