Hi everyone

I'm having some bad latency on my ADSL 4096k line. 400ms + and speeds lower than 1mbps...

Anyone else have this or know what's going on?

Using WebAfrica as my ISP and I see no network outages on their status.

I don't think it's his exchange TBH, I had the same issues and even trying their unshaped prepaid accounts (which got worse latency than their normal shaped ones), I finally made the move to MWEB.

Well, it got better about an hour or 2 after I made this thread. Hope it's not the exchange as that will take longer to fix =/

I'll have to agree with you here hereticangel :(

@OP: By the looks of this response time on the 2nd hop, does look exchange related. Drop me a PM with your client code and I'll double check for you.

Well you guys were right. Even using the guest ADSL account from SAIX I have latency and slow speeds =/

One of the WA guys is looking into it and taking it up with Telkom for me though :)

So here I sit. I have a 60gb unshaped account from Afrihost and a 4mb line.

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5024 kbps - 511 kbps
Line Attenuation 34.5 db - 15.5 db
Noise Margin 8.1 db - 12.2 db

Not bad by any stretch of the imagination.

So, why, given the above, is everything I'm attempting to download internationally running at around 10kb/s?

Attempting to tracert to cnn.com, google.com and news.sky.com. First to immediately result in General Failure (yet I can connect to them no problem in the browser). news.sky.com times out after the 9th hop.

Is this a congested exchange, then? What am I supposed to do? Is there any solution at this point, or am I ****ed?

EDIT: Hey, at least I can access News24.com (that sterling home of quality journalism) and Ananzi for searching at like 200kb/s. Who needs anything else right?

As far as I understand, Telkom needs to upgrade the exchange and that could take some time as we know their service sucks.
