Latency is up...

Nothing posted on SGS ever seems to get resolved. Anything hinting at criticism of Telkom seems to get locked. Complaints about the game servers are usually met with a "Shaddup and be grateful you get the service for free" type response.

They even banned me last year because of my posts on this forum.

So I would just be wasting my time if I registered as a member there...?

What is the url for SGS? What on earth is SGS?

I got a "warning" for posting an obscene gesture. It was a fullstop, an exclamation mark, followed by another fullstop.

But yes, Andre's post sums it up perfectly.

ic: Saix Gaming Services :P

Back to the topic, has anyone heard anything else from Telkom regarding this latency? I emailed the "adsl support" and was given some number to call. I wish I could spend all morning at work, waiting to get through to someone at Telkom.

Please contact our ADSL Support Desk on 0800 375 375 who will assist you with this fault.

Why can they not answer my query via an email? :/

Aha, I have heard tell of this thing called gam[bl]ing online, maybe I will try it one day (I will probably suck horribly but try anything at least 1nce), so the url is likely to be *.saix.net then?

Don't bother.

Try email Gert Furstenburg IPNet NOC <[email protected]>. He's answerd some of my more important queries in the past - don't count on it though.

Line interleave seems to be the default for ADSL providers, not even the americans have convinced their providers to bend most of the time it seems.

Convince them you need your ADSL line for SSH or something else latency sensitive - Gaming isnt going to be a good argument ;-) Generaly those types cause more trouble for ISP than the money is worth.

Welcome to the club, and I didn't even get past the signup process cos of the Hellkom e-mail. There are other forums too so I'm not concerned, just the complete closed-minded bonehead mentality that irks me.. if they're happy being like that, then I'm happy for them.. if not, who give a ****, let them live in their lil world and censor the hell out of the forums, Nazi-style.

Well thats really sad to hear the rest of the world mostly use interleaving too...though I cannot believe it, its reality :(

I do understand though why they would rather have it turned on than off. Most business wont even care, heck they just browse. and do crap.

I don't think interleaved is negative, what really pisses me off is not being able to choose between interleaved and Fast Path. We should have that option... Hating this situation. SNO couldn't come any sooner

So has anyone tried getting Telkom to change their VC bask to fastmode?

I have..
I have a fault number and everything..

That was over a week ago...
*waits*

Imagine asking for fast path cause u need ADSL for VOIP.

hahaha

The customer should have a choice. I agree.
In my case, if I really hurl a stone hard enough it will hit the exchange. So close I am to the Telkom Exchange.
So all these settings will perhaps only slow down my connection further.

I was considering dropping this wireless connection for uncapped 384 but if Telkom's gonna be a stick in the mud and stuff up everything then I may as well stick with this.. its uncapped anyways and the pings to gaming servers average from 25 to 45 during the day and 10 to 20 at nite.. now all i need is a game to play... /me dusts off his Quake 3 CD... heheheeheheh :)

BTTB I hope Telkom has forgotten about your exchange.. if you do chuck that stone better make it a large one maybe it will knock things right again hehe

Their was a time last year when the local Telkom Exchange's Alarm would go off at randow at all times of the day or night. It was really an emotive issue with he residents as whoever they phoned gave them the run around. Typical.
Anyway several months later the alarm was still going off at random.
Anyway I took the bull by the horns one day, when I saw a few Telkom Vehicles parked at the normally unmanned exchange and told them about their really annoying alarm.
To get a reaction out of the Telkom Employee, I told him that the situation was critical and the residents were really pissed off that they had considered shooting the siren off its mounting.
Well his prompt reply was that we should go ahead and do it.
So the idea of throwing a few stones around had occurred to several residents. And apparently Telkom people are not concerned anyway. :p

About the pings.
A fellow gamer I know was pinging 130+ the whole weekend as opposed to my 60 ping. We used to have a similar ping. Now his has doubled.
I told him that I think his exchange has been altered. He is not happy however. When he finds out the password for his router I will post his Stats to see if his connection was changed.

It would be a pity to have to ditch ADSL, because of pings on gaming servers.
It seems your pings are very good Mad. Which Wireless option are you using?

Eish, got this thread alert in mah e-mail and pressed Reply to answer.. what a knucklehead :)

I use Uninet (www.wdsl.co.za) they're in CT area & their download speeds are awesome.. their packages get full speed just about all day and their connections are uncapped.. pings are excellent & P2P is useless but that's a good thing, hence full speed downloads and low pings..

I was going to get uncapped ADSL and share it wirelessly with people in the area (yes, ACROSS ROADS.. *gasp*!).. doubt it now though, who knows what else Telkom may change.

Mad where do you live? and what are your download speeds like?

:)

your ping never jumps?

back to fast mode

im back to fast mode...
back to a ping of 50 in css..
and back to a ping of 40 in w3....
:D :D
telkom finally did something right
