Latency Issues

Phase 3 is a dps race, having a hunter pick off some bats is helpfull but things will still come down to dps at the end of the day.

What you can do to minizime the effect of the clouds is keep everyone in the inner ring until it is completely covered and then start using the outer ring.

We normally move to the outer ring for the last 10-15% and it leaves you with more than enough time to get her down.

We actually had 2 wipes before getting her down last night but with 8 melee it was a bit tricky :P

Thanks for the reply...
We also got her down earlier this week, but through errrr clever use of game mechanics...

Here is my concern, everyone is saying use hunters on bats in phase 3... I honestly think that is BS / half truth statement. All our hunters are pretty much BM spec, and I tried it... there is no way a BM hunter will get those bats down... not even one. The range on those bats are just too far off, BM hunters don't have improved hawk eye range talent points, so what this boils down to is, if you want hunters on the bats... you need MM hunters ?

I tried nuking them down, and with 14k HP and the speed they fly, you are "lucky" if you get one shot in, and I can promise you that one shot will never meet 14K damage. Thats the dilemma we sit with. I agree with the outer ring kiting... When I suggested it, the shammy's whined about range of totems etc... Everything I have been reading suggests to nuke her hard in phase 3 early, since early phase 3 is the best quiet period which you dont have too much green stuff on the floor. Once the enrage timer hits... its just bat p00p all over the show... cant even walk.

But anyway...thanks for the comments, let see how it goes this week. We have one successfull Vashj kill and I got my ugly Tier 5 helm, but I would like to see her down this week as well... We cleared SSC last night up to Vashj... so its just Vashj left for the week.

cheers :)

That helm is truely horrid. A female troll hunter in our guild recently got it and I won't lie I could not stop laughing for at least 30 minutes.

The killing of bats is not required. It does help and is a decent tactic. Ofcourse without the 3 points spent in Survival your hunters are wasting their time trying to get them down. Rather spend that DPS on the devil herself.

Agreed on nuking like mad at the start of phase 3, everyone should be burning every possible cooldown they have. Once the running area gets smaller you may spend a lot of time trying to get a spot to stand still instead of doing dps/healing. Which means you also end up with dead people and less dps. Well you get the idea.

As for the totems, well its not the end of the world. With 2 paladins your will have BoF on the tank at all times. The CD on grounding means its not eating up everything anyways (assuming you use that tactic as we do). I don't think its that big of an issue. The bigger issue is doing loads of dps in a very short period of time without too many deaths. While you are still in the inner ring the totems will be fine. Its only the last 10% or so that you will be kiting her around the outer ring.

Thanks...
Now this is the part I dont get... and this is why I dont agree with a LOT of the forum posts, boss killers etc. NO BM hunter in his right mind would spend talent points in survival tree, without chunking a HUGE dps loss. And thats the bottom line, this fight is incredibly dps intensive, as a BM hunter with fairly decent gear, I tell you, I am battling to keep elementals under control in phase 2, I cope... barely, but I cope and keep my side clean, respeccing to any other build would mean such a drop in DPS, that it would be impossible for me to keep stairs under control.

When I read the posts at elitist jerks forums, the only people that give full proper correct info, are guilds that have her on farming status, and they also say, MAGES on bats in phase 3. eg. Bad Omen

Well I take it you guys ignore the bats totally in phase 3 then ? And just nuke her down ? Thats the route we are going, and its messy... its really messy.

Anyway... I am hoping for a clean kill this week, I already gave up the bow to another hunter from the last kill... this time I want it !!! :)

Nah, when we first started with her we would have 2 hunters dealing with the bats. Since we mastered the fight there is no need since we are that much faster.

Nowadays yes, our hunters are back to BM and we just nuke her down ignoring the bats.

Are you soloing spawn points on the stairs? We usually have 1 melee and 1 ranged per point with a healer. So the melee sits at the bottom of the stairs while the ranged/healer stands at the top. Nice thing is that that healer/ranged can assist at the stairs and the raid. So a lock passes you with his new found pet strider you can just pop him a heal etc.

Also, how many healers are you taking. Chuck some out for DPS if you have to :P We do it with 6-7 healers.

The guild I'm in also nukes her down ignoring the bats, possibly cos our hunters phail miserably too :D
Melee on the elementals is badness imo.. they spend too much time moving, just have a ranged on each quater, rogues pwn them naga! :)
Just wishing I could kill Kael tbh.. keep getting owned on the 4th phase o_O

As for the original topic, I've also been having some issues recently, being unable to connect to Verzion at all at times =/

guys why dont you start a strategy thread, ask one the mods to sticky it,I like see'ing other peeps strats and methods.

Tell me about it, we are getting raped there as well. Still got 2 adds running around when Kael breaks and everything goes downhil from there.

Yes I am solo on my stairs... I have one healer at the top who I also pass the core to once it spawns. (with the proper Vashj macro ofc)
We keep our rogues top side to deal with naga's, as them running around on stairs is not optimal for dps. Since those elementals keep moving, and cannot be stunned / slowed down, a rogue cant really do as much dps as a ranged attacker on elementals.

It seems the mistake we are doing, is not entering phase 3 correctly.
The first few seconds of phase 3 can make or break the success of the kill. You only have a few seconds in phase 3 where you can actually sit and deal focussed dps... once the bat p00p starts landing, you run around too much and thats where your dps goes down the tubes.

We cleared SSC + TK this week, so we only have Vashj + Kael left till Wednesday. Gonna recommend that every single trinket, bloodlust, drums of war gets popped early in phase 3, and that we should also only try deactivating the last generator if the strider + naga have 90% of their health down.... We cannot afford to spend the most valuable DPS time in phase 3 on cleaning messy adds up.

On another note... anyone know if the "group loot" exploit has been fixed @ Vashj ?

Yes.... switch loot to group loot, Range dps nuker gets tainted elemental down, goes to pickup the tainted core, group loot displays the drop and everyone passes on the item, except the raid member standing right next to the power generator.
Was mentioned a few times on the Elitist jerk forums... Not sure if or when Blizzard is intending on fixing it (or if it has been fixed already).

Tuesday night we had a 1 % wipe on her, a 6% wipe and a 7% wipe.
It seems its the way we are entering phase 3, determines whether its a kill or wipe. The reason we didn't kill her on that 1% wipe, was because our 2 shammie's used their bloodlust at the same time in phase3...

Oh well... this week she will fall hopefully again.

i'm pretty sure the core is a "common" item and therefore wouldn't be subject to group loot rolling, buggered on the 1% wipe btw, gl this week :)
