Latency on 4 Mbps adsl

Can someone please advise what the average latency on a 4 meg line should be. i use to get about 19 ms up until a few weeks ago and for the last few weeks it is sitting at 41/42 ms.
 
I don't think the speed affects the latency so heavily. You can have a 1mb line and have the same latency. Could also be something at the exchange affecting it.
 
If you are on Interleaved 41ms seems ok. I use to get 8ms on FastPath, and 30ms on Interleaved.

You have to be more specific. Latency is dependent on the starting point and the end point. Before the fancy word "Latency" became fashionable, we were quite happy with calling it Round Trip Time ( RTT)!

Post a few trace routes or ping results to some known sites such as:

www.mybroadband.co.za
www.google.co.za
www.google.com

and then we will be able to offer some suggestions regarding what you are getting.

Something isn't right, your third hop has two timeouts and the fourth hop shouldn't be ~95ms.
