LATENCY!!!

Have not been keeping that close an eye on it but I would say that my latency has been regularly shooting up the past few weeks in the evenings.
Any pressure that MWEB could place on Telkom would be appreciated.

Using webafrica and axxess express tonight, getting timeout on pings to eu sites, also speed test is yielding 0.10mbps download. Same issue as last month around this time. Local speeds are fine, which leads me to believe international issue yet again.

probably was just some congestion somewhere... it calmed down later on though. 120 is easily playable the only problem is it rules me out for int servers since then im looking at 350+

Shoulda done a tracert though, only read the results given to me in game

@killadoob and Pooky

I have requested feedback on the situation in your areas, it's possible your problems are at the exchange level.

@GordonR and anyone else in the Clareinch area, or surrounds who is experiencing this problem could you send me your ADSL line number in a PM as well Please - I'm trying to link as many numbers as I can to a fault log I have raised for this issue.

done Will, thanks.

It was a problem again last night, 150+- ping - cleared up after 11:00.

How do I tell if I am on Clareinch?

Hi Brawler

Don’t worry too much about specifically being on the Clareinch exchange, rather run through the following fault criteria

  • A tracert shows your latency increasing to well above 100ms on the 3rd hop and stays like that for long periods.
  • Changing to a different ISP does not resolve the issue.
  • You have had your line tested by Telkom and there was no fault found, SNR, etc are normal.
  • The latency sometimes returns to normal levels especially late at night.

If you meet all four of these criteria then your problem is either going to be exchange related, or further upstream on the “last mile” backbone.

The pierre Van Ryneveld (RYNEVELDPARK) exchange has been suffering from high latency for quite a while now. Pattern is evening and weekends. Business hours its just dandy. ISP makes no difference, latency is bad from the second hop onwards.

Yup same with me in the Plumstead area, ( Wynberg Exchange I think ).
Generally 8am, when i start gaming, to about 11am pings are slightly bordering unplayable.

Recently had my port changed by telkom after the 10Mbps upgrade as that messed my line up.

Gonna try get hold of another account for testing

Same problem. I'm on DSLAM 6 (previously 5) at Clareinche - been impossible to play over the last few weeks. I'm averaging around 180 at the moment to Jhb.

Will@MWEB - I PM'd you my info. Thanks.

@acidrain

I think that makes it fairly conclusive to say that this problem exists upstream of the exchange as we are seeing the same results from Plumstead and Claremont. These are the results from a SAIX based connection.

@teRRier thanks - I'll +1 you onto the list tomorrow morning :)

3rd hop latency is low 8's but now times out after that. Entire internet is down mid game.. sigh
