The way people are going on about this is like handling in footy has never happened before... well it has and it will continue so why cry about it?

Most of you are going on about how he is cheating... well thank you for pointing that out - because if the red card and slow motion replay didn't already tell us that then obviously your words of wisdom will make us see the light.

Just for fun - try and put Gyan into some of the topics on this subforum:

Yeah, I agree too.

Yet he remains a pig and someone should destroy him.

No he stole Ghana's goal. Although Gyan should have got that penalty, he wouldn't have even needed to try has ****** Suarez not played goalie.

while i agree that its "cheating" its still the rules of the game: so dont hate the player, hate the game
while i agree that that DID stop the goal; on an equal argument ghana players were offsides just moments b4 (which should have resulted in the possession going to uruguay in any case)
and yes... the ref/assitants HAD NOT called it, so the goal would have stood (but then the uruguayians would have had something equal to moan about)
one thing i am happy about is that the ******* is not gonna be in the game against the dutch

When they drew up the rules of the game, they probably never entered fairly obvious rules of football - for example : only the goalie may stop a ball using his hands. Any other player may not attempt to substitute the goalie if he cannot save the ball

To rest of us, fairly obvious - but the South Americans, maybe not so. FIFA should have a different set of rules for them and add in clauses like the above and maybe a few others that are obvious, but they miss

they should have awarded the goal in those circumstances... yes saurez is fail for using a loop hole in the rules, but even more of a fail on Fifa for actually allowing this type of thing to happen. The players are allowed to abuse the rules without fear of prosecution, thus cheating and manipulation ensues, this is not a player problem its an organisational management problem. Rules need to be amended, players need to be reprimanded after a game for diving, fouling, cheating and so forth. Winnings need to be based off a players performance including his behaviour, contracts need to flexible to punish out of line players.

This type of thing is just allowed to happen, time and time again, and this comes down to Fifa. I wouldnt be suprised if they are blantently leaving holes in the system in order for them to manipulate certain things on the field.... why not have the most sophisticated reffing, tv reffing, goal line technology, awarded goals for cheating on the goal line etc etc .. things could be put into place to prevent players from wanting to cheat and dive and foul and then the game will become a spectacle to watch, right now its pathetic, cant wait for the RWC next year, then we will be able to watch a real sporting event take place. Viva rugby!!!

supposedly fifa have said that they like stuff like this happening because it causes people to talk extensively about the soccer -> its free publicity

Never in my 15 years of football have I seen a player, besides the keeper, intentionally use their hands to stop the ball from crossing the line like that. That is what pissed everybody off, added with that was his acting during the SA and south korea games.

The son of a bitch even celebrated in the tunnel after the miss. I am glad he won't play another game in this tournament

The way people go on about corrupt politicians, you'd think it never happened before.
The way people go on about crime, you'd think it never happened before.
The way people go on about.... you get the idea?

People discuss issues that bother them. This bothers a lot of us.

And a lot of people have the gall to say he is not a cheat. Even he has stated that he has no regrets about what he did! And that is the part you appear to be missing. His actions were bad enough, but his, and the coach and fellow players, response to what he did just rubs salt in the wounds. Sure you can secretly delight at the fact that you cheated your way into the semis but at least lie (you are already dishonest so it makes no difference) at press conferences and say that you are a little regretful about what you did and it was instinctive etc.

Why? You're just being silly now! Gyan did not deliberately miss the penalty. Suarez did deliberately handle the ball to prevent a certain goal. You see the subtle difference?

I am not certain it is the sort of publicity soccer should want. As a parent I would not want my child partaking in a sport that encourages cheating and holds very little consequences if you do.

I'm totally with you on this. I can only reach one of two conclusions about those who are supporting his actions :

1. They have moral and ethical values similar to his.
2. they are merely trying to be controversial for the sake of attention.

My guess is that most of the people who flame Suarez are not regular football spectators but rather just 'temporary' fans while the world cup is here :)

So are you saying that "regular" football fans are so used to this cheating in a sport they hold so dear that it no longer means anything to them when someone does cheat? Great sport you support! It says a lot about the people who call themselves fans of the game....

Besides soccer is such a simple game that it only takes about 30 minutes to understand the whole thing, so even a new fan is fully capable of commenting on all the nuances of the game!

actually he only got 1 match, he can play the final.

FIFA are looking into extending the ban.

And for those repeatedly claiming that the punishment does indeed fit the crime, Suarez words seem to indicate otherwise :

Suarez, who has three goals in the tournament, said it was “complicated” to be ejected from a World Cup game.

“But the way in which I was sent off—truth is, it was worth it.”

Clearly there is something majorly wrong with the rules and the punishment given.

It seems highly unlikely that in your 15 years if football you've never seem something like that before. It happens at least a couple of times a season.

Show me a sport where its participants don't try cheat and I'll show you a liar.
