Lay off Suarez will you!

Point me in the direction of fans of another sport who defend cheating by a participant so fervently....

Not sure how long some people have been watching footie but it happens all the time. If you can't handle it then by all means stop watching it.

Really simple, he got a red card, gave away a penalty and ghana messed it up. Nothing shocking about it apart from poor gyan who failed to put them into the semi's.

Cricket is a prime example where batsman don't walk when they are clearly out. Rugby players are constantly being blocked off the ball. Those are clear examples of cheating in sports and it's accepted as part of the game.

Most fans will defend the actions of the players they support, regardless of which sport it is.

Regardless, I don't see a lot of people saying what he did wasn't wrong, just that the reaction has been pathetic.

The facts are:
- he cheated
- he got the maximum punishment applicable
- Ghana had a very good chance to win and bottled it

Yip, there we go, as if to prove my point, more defending of his actions. Thanks for giving me a peek into the psyche of a soccer fan.

And feel free to read through the thread, you don't even have to go far back, regarding this latest argument of "how long have you been watching".

Yup ghana messed it up, twice actually. First gyan then the other ghana players who could not convert their penalties. That is life.

The rules may be a bit messed up lance but like i said they are rules so get over it or stop watching.

What you are comparing now is closer to someone taking a free kick from 10m further forward than the ref indicated rather than handling the ball on the goal line!! The equivalent in cricket to Suarez' actions would be waving your hands in front of the wicket keeper's face while he tries to catch a skier you just hit! In rugby it would be running and grabbing the ball just as the flyhalf is about to kick a penalty!

Icyrus, you have clearly only appeared on the scene regarding this topic. There has been much defending of him. Some have gone as fare as saying he DID NOT cheat. Some have gone as far as calling him a hero, a martyr and a God! There has also been discussion around whether a one match ban is indeed acceptable punishment. After all there was a world cup semi final place at stake there. It seems the punishment is in fact not enough to deter actions such as these when you factor in Suarez' subsequent comments.

This argument always makes me laugh. If you don't like the rules of soccer, stop watching it. If you don't like the subject of a thread, don't read it. If you don't like the service you are getting at a restaurant, then just get up and quietly leave. If you don't like crime, then just look away when that person gets murdered and raped.

Is that how you lead your life?

No we are discussing cheating in sports, somehow it's acceptable for a cricketer to stand his ground when he clearly nicked the ball if it helps his team win a test series and he will be seen as a hero in his country if in the process he goes on to score a century yet Suarez's action is considered worse .

Lance, you are wasting your breath, mate. It seems to some people, cheating is an acceptable action.

Rubbish. If a Batsman knows that he is out in that fashion then he's a cheater and I will call him that. Sometimes though, a batsman might get a very faint edge and not even know that he edged it.

Suarez is a faggot. And that will remain. His faggotry against South Africa and South Korea frustrated me.. His handball against Ghana was the final straw.
It's NOT Olypmic diving, its NOT flipping volleyball! It's NOT an Oscar nomination for best pain face. It's FOOTball, you use you FEET and HEAD.

Exactly.

You notice that first post of mine that you quoted? Read it again and then come back to me about what I was actually discussing.....

Condemnation, or indeed the total lack of it, from supposed fans of this game of soccer for his actions. When a cricketer blatantly cheats and says he caught a ball which he didn't it is not treated well by the fans and the media. And that is an incident which is touch and go and often needs TV replays to show whether it was indeed caught or not.

Here it is blatantly obvious and yet fans of the sport still defend it.

And we are not talking about fans of Uruguay who are blinded by patriotism here. We are talking about individuals who don't give a damn about Uruguay (although the assumption can be made that their defence of Uruguay stems from the fact that they were playing against an African country!) defending these actions instead of saying he was a cheat and these sort of things should not be allowed in the game. That would be the simple, obvious response that a sane human being would expect!

How many matches do you see where there is clearly a nick and the batsman will stand and hope that the decision goes his way yet I don't see half the batsman in the world being branded as cheats. Standing and waiting for the decision to go your way has become part of the game. I don't deny that Saurez is a tw*t but that has more to do with his onfield behaviour throughout the tournament but using or should i say abusing the system to gain a competitive edge is part of all sports.

Of course it happens and I condemn it strongly, doesn't change the fact that Saurez cheated.

As football fans we have seen this type of thing quite a few times a year in the game so it's a surprise to me personally that people are now making such a big deal about it. What he did and the punishment that he received are all part of the game. The player played according to the rules of the game knowing the possible consequence of his actions.

I'm not denying that Suarez is a cheat but it would be hypocritical to vilify him for that particular action when cheating is a part of the game of football and up to that point(the handball) people weren't complaining about Saurez's actions or any of the other cheating constantly happening during the tournament.

Suarez is a stinking scumbag cheat and I hope he never gets to play soccer again!
