I have a Crystal 1kva modified sine inverter sitting around doing nothing at the moment, so thought of setting it up in my home office for CCTV, Alarm system, wifi, couple of LED table lights and my PC, but as a ups only. In other words, the pc will not be used for a long period during load shedding.

I dont want to spend a fortune on batteries so I was considering the 12v LC Star 200amp Gel from China Mall. They can sell me one for R3k.

Anybody have any experience with the LC Star Solar gel batteries?

If you're going to go Lead Acid, the cheapest sealed flooded lead acid you can find, Gel, AGM are just a waste of money in our environment.

I understand that cheaper gel batteries are not ideal and are not my 1st choice, but a 2nd life 200amp Lithium battery will cost around R12k and last around 5 years, so I am told.
200amp Gel costs R3k and last approx 2 years (so I am told) if not abused, which it won't be. DC31 is around R2.8k x 2 if you can find them.
This is not for my primary inverter that's why I am looking for a battery that will do the job without spending a fortune. If the LC Star is really that bad then I will have to look elsewhere or scrap the idea.
Thanks.

This will die, all chinese batteries i have installed have pretty much died in 6 months.

Try and silver calcuim batteries from battery centre rather

As I said, if you're going lead acid, the cheapest Flooded sealed battery, also the gel won't last 2 years, not in South African conditions, you'll be lucky to get 6 months.

Sorry I dont understand your answer. Are you saying I must go for the cheapest sealed lead acid ?

OK Got it now. Lead acid if not Lithium
Thanks.
Well AGM and Gel are lead acid, but bang for buck the sealed flooded are your best bang for buck.
I've experienced it myself, in fact those sealed flooded are still being used and it's hitting almost 3 years now.

My DC31's on my other inverter are also (touch wood) going strong after 3 years. To be fair though, our load shedding in durban is not as intense as some places in SA.
Am going to wait for the DC31's to come in again and rather spend the extra on them.
Thanks again.
