LCD and Plasma Bargains and Discussions thread

I'll be tilting my downlights ever so slightly away from the TV once I get it mounted to the wall.

Rather wait bud, it makes Nosense to just settle on (junk) Hisense ...
There's nothing wrong with Hisense, at the price point they generally come in at the Samsung or LG won't be much better or worse.
Hisense isn't JVC, AIM or any other cheap Chinese brand.

Fek me...how difficult can it be to get a wall mount for a TV?

Been to 3 Samsung stores and everybody has the same story, no stock in the entire country!

TV also has a slightly curved back so universal mounts are generally out of the question.

The TVs normally come with spacers for mounts
Check the box

Any one can give some feedback on the following to

LG 55" Super UHD Smart Digital TV with Nano Cell Technology [55SK8000PV]
Is it worth buying and at 11000

Yes definitely worth the buy at that price.

Sounds like a great deal... from where? Wonder if they have 65"

I was considering these as a "TV" replacement (don't need the tuner) or using using as desktop monitor (for the extra screen real estate):

But then I saw Sinotec has some decent pricing on a 65":

Any advice?
I don't care about the tv tuner, or the OS on the TV (will be using an external player - either a Xaomi or an Nvidia Shield)...

If that guy is going to necro a thread, then why not!

Anyone know what the STL-50G50UM stats are?
(Sinotec STL-50G50UM 50" Uhd Netflix Tv)

Seems to be on special at the moment for R5000 at Makro.

Interested to know if it has HDMI 2, what android version, and does it have HDR.

Or the stl-50d80ug - hdmi2? hdr?

I suspect its going to be old crap they're offloading - i.e. Android 4.2 or something garbage, but hoping someone here knows so I don't need to visit a Makro to check.

Cheers!

Ok, so the younger version of me headed to the store, and we have the following findings:

The stl-50d80ug (the non smart 50") is hdmi 1.4 - so 4k @ 30hz.

The "Smart" 50G50UM version is Android 5.1 - Old a.f., but still (barely) useable. Not sure if its hdmi2 though, I suspect hdmi 1.4 also.

So, old stock being shipped to SA to dump really, as Chinese stuff is *far* more modern than this, even in the lowest of price ranges.

Sinotec is not like HiSense or TCL. Its made in S.A now if you have a look at the wiki so i would not consider this a good brand. You get what you pay for.

I've just thrown out an oldish 55" JVC (Cogan) Smart TV that ran Android 4 (that aspect of the TV was always unusable) after the main controller board decided to give up the beans during load shedding last month - I won't be touching anything but Korean and Japanese from now on, and preferably only "dumb" TV's

Does anyone know if the locally sold Panasonics are genuine and not rebranded grey imports like JVC, Sinotec etc?
I see Stax has a few at good prices

Hisense is assembled here in SA now.

Yes but most parts still imported. Samsung put up an assembly factory here as well. Important to get the after sales service more so. If you look at world reviews over Sinotec is not even mentioned anywhere. Its like buying a rebranded Sansui which is not Japanese anymore from Hi-Fi Corp or a Safeway from Clicks. Cheap Chinese products. Probably have a better experience with a JVC if money is an issue.
