Probably because DSTV HD PVR is 1080i. 720p is in fact favoured in some instances like sport.
You can look into interlaced vs progressive if you like. But honestly, sell your LCD and get plasma like we've suggested.
You shouldn't lose much on your purchase if you're not able to return it to Hirsch's. Remember, about 90% of the market wrongfully think LCD is the best.

Where are you getting it though? Are you outside of SA?
I didn't even think there was an H range plasma, thought they ended with F as others have said, since Samsung are ending plasma production this year.

A bit big I'd say. Is the 51" 8 Series plasma in your range?
LCD appears sharper from closer up.
You definitely need to check both out at a proper AV store with dim lighting/a test room from your home viewing distance.
But yes, plasma is definitely better for what you're wanting. If you were using your TV as a PC screen, I'd say LCD. Or if you have a bright room always.
PP I'm in Johannesburg. Getting it from Dion Wired. Saw it yesterday it was still in a box, they said they just arrived I think this week they are not even unboxed yet. He opened a box to show me as it's not on display yet. It's retailing for R14000.
The samsung representative kept going on about how the 55" 3D LED is better value for money but couldn't tell me why as it has the same features as the plasma.

Yes the rooms is bright during the day as I have a sliding door and it's about a 3 meter lounge. But I don't watch much t.v. during the day so it's mostly evenings after work.

I am about 2.7m away from my 60", it will seem too close in the beginning but after a day or two you will adjust to it and it will be perfect

Either way, all TVs are glossy these days in order for them to compete better vs one another. Glossy screens allow light/colour to come through better than matte. You can't have a Sony with a matte screen in Dion Wired next to a Samsung with a glossy screen, everyone would buy the Samsung.
That said, LCD glossiness is the lesser of two evils. So keep that in mind. I suppose you probably have curtains though, like most people do.

True. You do get used to it. And it's better than going for smaller and wishing you had bigger. 60" should keep you happy for a long time.
Yep I do.. and I have them closed mostly when I'm doing anything on the t.v.

Using this distance to size calculator seems 60" is perfect for my sitting distance
It'll be a dream to game on.
But just be open minded and go test both. As mentioned, LCD is sharper up close, plasma is 'fuzzy' as the pixels literally bounce around. It's never been noticeable for me on a 51" FHD plasma from 1 - 1.5m. 60" from 2.5m should be fine.
