LCD and Plasma Bargains and Discussions thread

Ladies and gents, please share your wisdom on the following:

A colleague is in need of a TV for their flat. Budget is R6,000 (but come with R7,000 options if need be), your suggestions? In terms of size I would say 40 to 48 inches, 32 would probably be too small.

Look for a second hand 51 inch plamsa. The picture quality will blow that lcd out of the water

I think it's very much your personal opinion. Newer led are much better in producing blacks with local dimming and I can't stand the glare and bulkiness of plasma

Couldnt agree more. After owning every variant along different brand lines over the years, I will say absolutely nothing I've ever owned beats my current 4K LED TV. I always felt plasma was absolute garbage, notwithstanding the tremendous amount of heat every plasma TV I ever owned generated.

You save on heating cost oin winter. HD ready plasma show better blacks than a current 4k led

I think you're sadly mistaken. I have never seen better blacks on a TV than I do now. Do you own a 4k TV? Theres no comparison between a plasma and a decent 4k TV. Not even remotely in the same group for comparison in my opinion and experience.

i'd rather pay more for electricity on heating my place than suffer through a single HD movie/game on a plasma ever again

I think you are mistaken. Have you owned a full hd plasma. Blows any 4k led out of the water. Only OLeD can compete with plasma. Led lcd will always be inferior no matter what ridiculous marketing you believe.

I have indeed had the displeasure of owning a FullHD Plasma heater. And as per my previous point, I mentioned a 'decent' 4K TV. OLED included. My current TV is OLED and comparing that to ANY crappy plasma heater is a silly discussion.

I'd sooner watch a movie on my phone than a plasma heater. Phone is OLED too - before you claim a phone screen generally sucks. Point is.....plasma is a dead technology. And for good reason too. Brands discontinuing production on plasma heaters are a great thing. Blows my mind that anybody would say plasma is superior to a proper 4k TV.

Samsung Smart Tizen 55" for R11,900

My trusty old HD ready JVC plasma is starting to die.

Basically I'm looking for a decent TV to last me until OLED at that size becomes affordable so value for money is high up on my list of priorities. Don't want to add to the debate but not a big fan of LCD - just need something nice to bridge the gap.

Not really interested in UHD as I would hope to have moved to OLED by the time content is widely available.
 
Interested in buying the UA65JS8000. Any opinions on the TV? Either that or the 65" 950 LG. Any of you guys have either? Any suggestions? Reason for the above is, I don't like curved tvs much.. the above are both flat and seem to be the quality I'm looking for.
