It's sad to say the least... My Hp LCD Fails after 8years,(Correction I see 29 Oct 2004) 6 years. The screens back light only displays like 10% of the detail in color and the rest is black... It also flickers goes on and repeats sometimes.

My question is: Can this back light be fixed?

the lcd panel can be replaced.

But with the current pricing it might be worth replacing rather than repairing the LCD.

Repairs seldom carry more than a 3month warrantee or not at all depending on where you have it done.

never deal with LRP(LetMeRuin-it) unless you have to. I.E. A warrantee item.

Then he should rather go to esquire or buy a used one from gumtree or something.

It''ll be cheaper to purchase a new unit. The prices you pay for a refurb when out of warranty is just as high, or higher than a new unit.

thanks, for all the info :) I think I'll replace it then, it sounds a lot easier.

It's possibly just the backlight inverter that's on the way out and maybe not the panel itself, particularly if you say it's flickering. It is a lot cheaper than the whole panel too.

Agreed, LMR is a no no, will come back in worse condition than it went in.

Most likely the inverter or the ccfl's. Might be from bulging caps. Most of the time its far easier to just get another unit. That way to get the warranty with it. Repairing electronic components is a dying art. :(

That sounds more like a power converter issue. You'd have a better chance at DIY fixing that than the backlight itself. Google the model number online...sometimes DIY is feasible if you can get parts.

At 8 years, I'd just upgrade & call it a day. Remember LCD panels also degrade gradually over years (contrast & brightness drop slightly), so even if you fix it it will never be 100%.

I am pretty sure OP is talking about an HP laptop monitor, unless I am very mistaken.

We will never know because he never provided any details, you know, basic things like model# etc.

Sory - forgot to supply the details, here they are

It is not a laptop its a LCD monitor

Model name: L1902
Model number: HSTND-2A01

Hope this helps.

Agree with other posters, if it is a normal monitor and is fairly old, buy a new one.
