LCD/led/plasma specials

Hirsch's still have it for R4999, I think.

Nah, check spreadsheet. The 40" d550 goes for 5699 or something. We called them from game

Probably FDW again. They had great prices on the 32" and 40" before their Samsung LCD section "mysteriously" vanished. I have my own little theory on what happened based on what I heard the guys in the shop say though.

Gosh! Not bad! Sure it was the d550 LCD ?

Pmp, on my watch list ps51d550 ;-)

Aiming at 7k inclusive of pricebeat!
Would love to put it side by side in my lounge with the la40d550 ;-$

makro are doing the LA46D550 for R7k currently. Grabbed one yesterday.

And. Like it?

Definitely. SD content does not look so good but to be expected. We use it mainly for Xbox, Bluray and streaming HD movies via DNLA (AllShare) from my Mezzmo server . For this the quality is flipping outstanding.

I am undecided though whether my LG 42LE5500 or the Sammy are tops. They are both very good at what they do.

I will be doing a bit more testing in the morning. Been watching movies all night and for that my preference is still the projector so not watched too much on the Sammy yet.

Does that really make a difference?

Go compare a 50 to a 100/200 to a 600hz plasma... Decide f it matters :) get some hd sport and a fast paced action movie... I don't see the big deal, I actually prefer 50... The higher end refresh rates take away the feeling you are watching a movie. IMO

Really? So what is the actual point if the higher refresh rates and do you recommend the one I posted then?
Its an LED 32 inch right?
Seems cats digital is the cheapest right?

Ya but dude, go compare the 3.. I don't wanna be blamed for something which you might like indeed.

Ya, goto cats digital, they can also align them right next to one another for you to decide. Their lighting is also pretty good (sandton branch that is)

Just for info sake, the 600hz on a plasma is actually for the subfield, the plasma itself is still actually only a 50/60hz system, the reason it handles motion better is more on how the response times work. Refresh rates can be quoted out of your wazoo really if the response time is higher then 8ms its' going to ghost like crazy.

I'd only use 100Hz in LCDs for sport. Everything else looks sh*t, as if it's filmed with a handheld cam. Bright room and you need sport viewing, by all means go 100Hz LCD. Darker room with curtains, less direct sunlight etc. and for sport, you go plasma and save a stack or get like 20% extra screen size and generally better PQ for the same price.

Compare in an environment that simulates your home. Don't compare in mass mart stores under 1000s of watts of lighting. You will walk out with LCD then and you'll never understand plasma PQ, as it really shines in dimmer environments (like most TV rooms right).

Ok gents, what do recommend?
I want LED (do I ?)
I want network connection, HDMI, etc.

I watch Movies only, no TV. I will not be using DSTV.
I do not think I need more than 32inch.
What do you guys recommend? Sorry I know this has been asked and answered to death.
Postmanpot what do you think?

It's not LED, it's LCD. I am just saying this for your benefit as I detect some marketing gimmick has brushed off onto you.

As I said, depends on your room.

Bright room = Samsung LA32D550 R3,500 / LA40D550 R5,500. 32" and 40" respectively, Full HD.
Darker room = Samsung PS43D450 R4k / PS51D450 R6k. 43" and 51" respectively, HD Ready.

SD movies will look best on the plasmas. They won't look good on the LCDs.

Full HD movies will look best on the LCDs.

For the best of both SD and HD, HD plasma is the way.

The second option is Plasma right?
Now the issue is I do not have much space, the wall is small. Might have to hang from ceiling. :(
Where are those prices from PP?
Cant we have your name changed to TVgod or something? :D

That's right.

43" plasma is about 1.1m wide. 40" LCD about 1m. You can check all the specs here:

LCD 32" http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/.../LA32D550K7MXXY/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail
40" http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/.../LA40D550K7MXXY/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail

Plasma 43" http://www.samsung.com/africa_en/co...dex.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=specification
51" http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/.../PS51D450A2MXXY/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail

Prices are general prices I pick up from viewing threads. Usually the mass mart stores. FotoDiscountWorld have good prices.

Glad to help. :)
