I have 2 pencil thin vertical lines on my laptop screen. What could this be?

Where are the lines? What colour are they? Are they a constant thickness (say, 1 pixel thick)? What are the screen specs?

Looks like 1 pixel and pinkish in colour. One just off center and one on the RHS.
As to monitor specs ?? 17" Toshiba Satellite Media Edition. Paid R12 000.00 about 3 years ago.

Monitor is: Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset Family [Display adapter] (2x)
LPL [Monitor] (3x)

the best thing to do is take it for rep..

Maybe there was some heavy stuff laying on the laptop and it pressured the Lcd which caused it to crack? (inside the screen not outside)

If it's exactly a vertical straight line, then it's possible that the circuitry to control those 2 vertical lines is malfunctioning. I doubt you could fix JUST that, so you would end up having to buy an entire controller. Or a new screen. Or a new notebook. Sorry :(

Of course, the best thing to do is take it in to the distributors, who would be able to troubleshoot the problem correctly.

You haven't mentioned, is the line ALWAYS visible? i.e. right from when screen is switched on until it turns off, no exceptions?

Is it visible when the notebook is powered down?

Not likely. I've seen the problem that you describe many times, and believe me; you KNOW when the LCD is cracked. Pretty colours! :o

Good thinking sn. Yes the lines are there as soon as I switch on before windows starts. So it must be the imbedded transistors. This cannot be fixed. The screen must be replaced or as I use the laptop as a desktop, I could remove this screen and buy a 17" LCD monitor. Should be cheaper.
