I want to start this thread for people to post their reviews of Players BUILT INTO Lcd TVS.
Please state the model number to avoid confusion.
I am one of those people who prefer watching movies/series of the net (AVI/MP4/WMV/MKV etc).
I find DSTV/Satelite TV faily pointless, and a total ripoff
I see many LCD TVS with USB ports, but you can never tell what the actually play, and how well.
We bought a samsung series 5 (40" 530), and struugled to find reviews on how it played media files, and how it dealt with plugging in media devices. The salemans know nothing at all.
make up a random format, and they will insist it can play it.
We almost bough a sony EX tv, which proudly shows the divx certified logo on the box,but read on the net that it does not Play AVI's (xvid).
Here the review of the media player of the LA40C530F1R
The media player is very good in my opinion.
It will happily pick up a 1TB drive, with multiple partitions,and formats (NTFS/FAT32)
Its plas Divx,xvid upto the latest version 6, but I have not tried Divx ultra.
Will play full HD resolution with no problems.
Most AVIs, MP4(H264) ,Mpeg and WMV9 is also fine, upto full HD, although , if the encoder used weird audio video options, it will not play.
Full HD 1080p MKV's plays fine, but only till profile 4.1, which is irritating, as most are now profile 5.1
You can downlaod a converter which will convert the file to v4.1 with no quality loss, but this can take about 12 minutes for a 8GB file. I have noticed though that some MKV files have more artifacts that the same file played using a laptop, connected to the TV via VGA cable (at same full HD resolution).
Another irritating aspect of the player is that if you switch to another source, TV,HDMI,Composite, the player will reset itself. You have to then hunt for the file you were watching.
All in all, samsung has done a good job on the player, and I am hoping that future firmare updates will keep up with changes in codecs.
The price of the the TV was 8K (special), and I think that the player is at least 1100-1300 in value, if you consider the cost of buying say a WD HDD MKV player.
They had a 40inch sinotec for 7k, but I think the USB port here only player Jpegs/MP3's, so in my opinion, the 40inch sinotec costs more when considering options vs price. I think guys like sinotec have lost the plot, and the price difference between them and the top manufacturers is falling fast.
They have to boost features on the entry level models ASAP.
