Because the interviewee and his time are so damn good ... except for the absence in micro chip processing capability.
 
I just watched the interview...I thought it was a pretty normal reaction from a father, who's son just beat the greatest olympian of all time to win gold.

I mean what did people expect, its not like they were doing a post match interview with his coach or something. Bloody hell my father would've been completely un-interview-able

I think people actually did expect it. It was completely natural. Exactly as it should have been. And that's why it has become so popular. Heck if I was in his place I wouldn't have managed a coherent word. Just a cr@pload of tears :D
