'Learners' begging at traffic lights ?

Try to ignore beggars. If you feel guilty, remember this: You give a huge slice of your salary to the government in tax. For most of us i would imagine it's over to 40% (incl. VAT on purchases.) WTF should I be guilted into more handouts when that tax money is not being used to help people.

Yesterday, I saw some chop in an X5 gave a beggar R20. I was thinking "dude, you moron! My domestic has to work for an hour cleaning my dirty underwear and toilets for R20." That's just not fair - the people doing hard work to earn money could easily stand at a robot and look half dead for free money. But they choose to work and earn a living. I'm going to give my domestic an extra R20 this week just because she actually deserves it.

It's getting so bad now that every single robot has a beggar standing there. Most of them look young and fit and won't accept food or a job. Please guys, stop encouraging begging by handing out money. Give food or water, because giving money is rewarding the habit.

When I lived in PTA they used to do it at menlyn…..Some of them are very funny. They ask you for money for petrol, drinks or what they need…..
One year there were a guy in his board short a tube around his middle wings and snorkel saying he had a place to stay food to eat and drinking money to go to Margate would we donate petrol money….

It’s the same as the Jool kids…..
I know I also wanted to go on my Matrix holiday but didn’t have the money, at least they are honest, you know you are donating booze money.

My friends that were at Uni said they use to keep extra Jool cans and when they didn’t have booze money would use those to collect money, rather crafty.

Sweet! Where do I book for one of those?

Agreed. I ignore beggars 100%. Don't feed their habit.

Agree here as well.

When I visited a home for street children a year ago, the people there also said not to give the children on the street any money, because if you give them money they will never feel the need to seek help and will stay on the street.

I caught the tail end of a radio report this afternoon.

Apparently ' learners' who have just finished school have been at traffic intersections begging for holiday money ?!

Anyone know more about this ?

I have seen a whole group of kids actually begging at the Van Buuren off-ramp from the N3 South

Well a couple of times now I've seen children in full school uniform begging at traffic lights in William Nichol. I think it is a bloody disgrace, to them to the school and to their parents. And now I must say you can see these kids are not underfed or neglected or anything, but they are begging and making jokes while they are doing it.

My worst begging experiences would be the following:

Had a beggar at a BP filling station who said that he went fishing and fall into the river and lost his wallet. He showed his whole family to me, saying that they were all waiting and he only needed money for petrol. I gave him R10 for petrol but he was audacious he told the petrol attendant not to fill in my full value and to give him the difference of another R10.

I also stopped at a robot intersection. A guy pulled up to next to me in a Citi Golf. He was begging me for 2 litres of petrol so that he could drive to Centurion. I refused to let him siphon petrol from me. He got really upset and sped off from the intersection.
