I caught the tail end of a radio report this afternoon.

Apparently ' learners' who have just finished school have been at traffic intersections begging for holiday money ?!

Anyone know more about this ?

Nope, but sounds plausable. Maybe something the Myth Busters could investigate...

Better than waitering.

Not really, atleast if they waiter they contribute to society. These 'learners' must go ,.!., and get a job.

well at menlyn shopping center, ive seen in the past 2 weeks an "instructor" that carefully is at the side monitoring / tutoring (his ?) beggertjies. Not badly dressed either...

Better than pole dancing lol :p

They need to get a job.. tho its kinda hard if they are only starting to look for vac jobs now.

You know what would be funny, if the real bergies chase them away :p

Well at some of the robots on Bosmansdam rd, i have seen kids with grey school pants no shoes and T-Shirts, especially in the afternoons after school hours, and often suspected that very same thing about them, as they are just too neat and clean to be street kids.

And the ANC wants to support these "learners" with grants until they "find work"....

Beer money. Its hard to come by when you a student lol.

They just beggars... Oldest trick in the book, use your school letterhead, make columns call it, whatever you and go house to house, robot to robot getting money!

When I lived in PTA they used to do it at menlyn…..Some of them are very funny. They ask you for money for petrol, drinks or what they need…..
One year there were a guy in his board short a tube around his middle wings and snorkel saying he had a place to stay food to eat and drinking money to go to Margate would we donate petrol money….

It’s the same as the Jool kids…..
I know I also wanted to go on my Matrix holiday but didn’t have the money, at least they are honest, you know you are donating booze money.

My friends that were at Uni said they use to keep extra Jool cans and when they didn’t have booze money would use those to collect money, rather crafty.

Eish but eets owa new culchaa!

I've seen it too and it didn't bother me because I could see they were joking around and it was lighthearted. (not that I gave the cheeky little buggers anything). Let's face it, these days this sort of thing will be tolerated. In the past I think it would have been a different story. At least they don't strip down to their underpants, dirty themselves up and pretend to have some horrible physical/mental condition as do certain of the full time career beggars. Anyway, it doesn't bug me because I generally ignore 99% of the beggars these days anyway.

Hehe. When I was in varsity, students from res used to beg for beer money in the roads around the campus. People gave them like R50+. But at least they were upfront about it.
