Hi all, I am sorry for the long post, but I know in situations like this the more info the better
I play WoW over iBurst and I am unfortunately not in a position to change my internet connection due to various reasons. Over the past year I have seen my latency constantly increase and over the past 3 or so months it has just been ridiculous. Then this past week iBurst ran into a host of problems with some upgrade they did aswell as the break in the Seacom cable.
This resulted in me looking into a solution and I came across the Leatrix Fix, which I applied and am very pleased with, my latency drastically improved in crowded zones like SW and Org (less than 450ms) and while doing the new quests in Silverpine I could be lucky enough to see my latency being reported at below 300ms and Green for the first time in my WoW playing life. This is all great and I thought I was going to have a very pleasant time in Cataclysm after my headaches in WotLK due to my Latency and disconnects.
Last night I decided to do a final "stress test" of this fix and entered Alterac Valley, thinking 40 Alliance vs 40 Horde will pretty much be as much as my connection will need to handle. I zoned in and saw the familiar signs of a incoming disconnect (Characters running on the spot, no response from my buffs etc...) and 20 seconds later I was disconnected. I logged back in and was able to zone in, mount up and head for Galv (Latency was not great) but as soon as I encountered other players I was disconnected again. I spent the rest of the night trying to test what was happening and concluded that the fix still worked in in SW/Org/Dalaran aswell as out in the World Zones while questing. I could play in AV when I unistalled the Fix, but latency was obviously at it's pre-fix state.
I logged on later in the night and saw that there was an announcement from Blizz that they were having problems with BG/instances disconnecting and I was hoping beyond hope that this was the reason, but unfortunately I am still having the exact same problem at 11:30am the following day.
I have now spent the morning researching what could be going wrong and have come to the following conclusions that I need some help on from people who are a bit more clued up on this sort of thing. (Sorry if I get Terminology wrong)
Background on my network
My PC connects via a network cable to a Wireless Router, then I have 2 other computers that connect wirelessly to this router. The router connects via a network cable to iBurst Modem which has the big omni antena attached. It was set up by a technician. The Iburst speed tests via their website reports everything as “Green” according to the summary and the signal strength varies between 80-90%
1) I think my Routers buffer maybe getting a Back log leading to the lag spike and disconnects, this is consisted with a "rare" known issue published on the Leatrix website under Miscellaneous Questions. The plus side is that this is something I think I could fix.
2) My fear is that because of how the fix works, I am just losing too many packets of data from all the players over iBurst and journey from the EU servers leading to the disconnects. This is obviously something I cannot fix.
Or is there possibly something else I am missing? has anyone else experienced this? any advice, thoughts, or help would be greatly appreciated.
