GOAT conversations are almost always pointless. I would say in team sports they are even more pointless.
Very few sports are like for like comparisons between generations, even in sports like powerlifting, where generations are lifting the same weights and there are much less variables in the sport, things like training and recovery methodology, nutrition etc all play a part.

I wouldn't say pointless, but rather very subjective. It creates "conversation". Its always nice hearing views different to yours, which can help you appreciate the person or the sport more.
 
off topic: NBA finals are set, it’s the Denver Nuggets vs the Miami Heat.

I have the Nuggets winning in 6 games.
