LED lights?

I don't understand, what are you paying the guy for?

You send the specs of the ups, what else is needed?

Am I missing something?

That is just the inverter afaik. Im paying him to build it and keep it serviced :D

As I should it was

Power > UPS > TV and Stuff.

Power cuts.


UPS > TV etc

Well as I understand it. There will be a big box, with batteries, invertor, etc standing next to my pc. My pc will go directly into this. When the power goes out, Ill run an extension chord from one the plugins in my office through to the lounge to power the tv and dstv. The big box of batteries will be connected to the mains to charge when the electricity is up.

No, that does not include batteries; and he needs two of them.

2 x 100ah batteries will set him back around 4k
 
That makes more sense. I was trying to figure out what the setup looks like, because I could not gather much from the initial post by OP saying his UPS is arriving.

So OP, you are getting a UPS plus additional batteries?

No. Inverter + batteries. Really dude, all the information you are looking for is in this thread. Asking the same stuff over and over again is not going to change my answers. The only thing I did wrong was what you are doing. Confusing the inverter with a UPS.

So okey now I understand you are using the UPS as an inverter and external battery banks. How many battery banks are you using?

OK, I'm going to explain this.

A UPS is an Uninterruptible Power Supply (I think you know that).

Now, for the purposes of our discussion a UPS will always have three components.
1) A charger / charge controller - this part charges the batteries
2) Batteries - this part stores the charge for later use
3) An inverter - this part converts the direct current (DC) stored in the batteries into 220/230v alternating current (AC) which your household appliances need to work.

As per the above you can clearly see that saying "you are using the UPS as an inverter" doesn't make sense at all.

Do you now understand?
