So I had a bit of a pissed off brisk walk quite a distance a few weeks ago.
Didn't feel any pain at the moment.
The pain started about a day later.
It's really painful if I lift my left leg.
I can't pinpoint the source of the pain. Whether it's my hip or leg.
It's quite painful if I walk and even lying down and lifting the leg.
About 12 years ago I sprained my left foot/ankle quite badly when falling. I did the whole shebang with doctors and didn't get an op or anything. Since that time I've unconsciously placed more pressure on my right foot/leg when standing or walking. Noticing it once in a while and being aware of it. It's as if my mind is geared to not step too hard on the left foot/ankle.

I know a doctor is best, blah....

Has anyone had anything similar?
How would I be able to sort it out myself, especially the pain?
I walk quite a bit more these days and it's not getting better.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Please go to the doctor.
Will only be able to see one during next month. Will need an x-ray probably. Don't have medical aid, so it's public hospitals. I know of people needing operations that are being turned away due to no available beds...

Hoping for a fix myself. Would save a lot of headaches.

See if you can find a small book called, I think "Sport Injuries". See if you can point the pain according to the descriptions and drawings, it may help.

If i had to guess it say its some kind of soft tissue damage. Ligaments or muscle.

Still best to get it checked up. Rough it out in the public hospital lines if you have to. Doubt you'd need a bed if it's soft tissue.

Just don't ignore it.

I've self diagnosed my self with:

Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome

Due to an old leg break from a motorbike accident in 2001.

My knee's ligaments had never been the same since, but now it's problematic.
Manageable, but not lekker at times.

I got and am still overweight and started indoor cycling 5 weeks ago.
But realized that the seat at its highest isn't enough for me and like the article says, I was kind of pushing down and my left knee was twisting inward on the down pedal instead of a straight downward motion.

I cycle less now after a 3 day break and elevation. But I still have to check about either drilling another hold in the pipe for the seat or getting one made up especially for me.

I'm also long overdue for a visit to a biokinetic specialist or podiatrist. Because the break in my left leg, left it 1cm shorter than the right. Need an insole or whatever. Ah, procrastination...

A R400 visit to a chiropractor might not be a bad call either.
I went to see one in Sea Point that Datura here recommended to me.
I had my doubts about quacks, but that dude sorted me out.
But that was back pain related and sciatic nerve stuff.

But it couldn't hurt - no pun intended.

Good luck tera!

... and they say exercise is good

The same thing happens to me @tera it's all good at the time then the next 3 weeks I'm a cripple.

Anti-inflammatory is all I can suggest.

Hope you feel better.

Found it for you:

Also, surprisingly, I found one that could possibly assist with a lot of discussions in N & CA -

Ask someone to urinate on your leg. It works in the movies. Or rip your shirt viciously into strips and tie it around your leg. Spray doom on it. There are so many things you can try.

Being pissed off led to this, not sure being pissed on would help reverse the effects.

The generally sounds like soft tissue/ligament issues.

Yes a doctor would be your best solution of course, but for the moment rest and possibly anti-inflammatories may give you some respite and allow you to function but definitely take it easy and give the area time to recover.

I do not recommend going to the public hospital/clinic. There's plenty of cheap R300-ish doctors scattered around the suburbs - go see one of them and get a proper diagnosis and medicines.

I would start with a physio over a doctor personally.
Other than that, doing daily stretching routines for hip mobility has done wonders for my aches and pains.

Thanks folks. Appreciate the feedback and links. After reading @Shake&Bake post and link I realise that might be the cause. I sit a lot in front of a PC. My posture isn't good and it could definitely be spine related. I believe it was stuffed due to the vigorous walk, but the spine/posture story worsened it.

Maybe ask him to be more gentle with you next time?
Not able to walk properly the next day is one thing but being crippled for 3 weeks is just excessive!
