Lekota lambasts Expats

You listened to it or you wrote it? Besides, you're the most pro Mbeki person in the forum - he can do nothing wrong in your eyes so what's the point even trying to talk to you? You already have your perception don't you?

very, very mature

The most vehement criticism has been reserved for those who have dared to suggest that our efforts should be guided by concrete reality rather than by alarmist hyperbole.

50 murdered people a day = alarmist hyperbole

It is quite amazing how some people have selective hearing, I listened to the State of the Nation, and thought that the President adressed the issue of crime quite appropriately

Not really that amazing. People don't believe a word he says because all he gives us is empty promises.

These are solid, concrete measures in an effort to further reduce the levels of crime in the country, yet the Opposition still says he said little about crime, which gives credence to the statement by the President that the issue of crime is being irresponsibly used for political gain

The President should apologize to his subjects for the sin of not addressing this before it became uncontrollable.

We all know that when HE starts talking about something it takes years before something in fact starts to happen. Like telecoms for example, we are still waiting for liberation from Telkom (many years after HE started talking about it).

I agree with Leitmotif. Talk is cheap...

We want action and results NOW.
But the president can only talk during a state of the nation address. What kind of action were you expecting? Were you not satisfied because he did not foam in the mouth like a mad dog whilst he addressed the issue of crime? He promised additional police, more prisons. Were you expecting to see a drop in crime immediately after his speech?

We can criticize all we want but we also have to be realistic in our criticism.

Well now why does that not surprise me? I am tired of his talking, he must act. If he is going to speak, surely he should be inspire the nation? Instead he mumbled on about rubbish.

Thats the problem the President always make promises but nothing ever happens... 13 February 2005 the President also called for action in the telecoms market to lower prices yet nothing has happened.

He onced promised 150 000 policeman and he delivered but that's cearly not enough.
There has been some changes in the telecoms. SNO is in place. Number porting should also encourage competition amongst operators. Progress is slow but that does not equate to nothing

Sheesh, I'm now speaking like a gvt official (I hate it when I do that). But at the end of the day, it's all about fair criticism.

The stuff the President promised to deliver but never did far outweighs the stuff he did deliver.

Delivered? Maybe he delivered Nando's to you but he never ever delivered that.
2002 the president promised 16 000 more police over the following 3 years.

In 2005, he had this to say about crime
an additional allocation of R2, 3 billion was announced last October to improve the salaries of members of the police service. I am pleased to indicate that more resources will be added to what has already been allocated. Further, to improve our capacity to fight crime, an additional 8 000 members and 3 000 support staff have been recruited into the Service since May 2004.
I'm by no means claiming that this is enough. But the president has always put crime on the agenda. He has followed up on his previous promises. I don't think it is fair to claim that he makes empty promises

How many years has T-Bone been in office?

How many police members were removed from specialised units and placed at standard station posts to bulk up the police force? This government will never learn - moving **** around just makes things look a little different, it doesn't actually do anything.

Ya so where are those 150000 officers? We only have about 180000 officers so where are the extra 150000 ?

You're wrong about that, in telecoms there is no progress just backsliding. There is also no valid reason for the situation we are in. Government has the power to change it overnight but they don't, the interesting question is why.
