Lekota lambasts Expats

http://www.24.com/news/?p=tsa&i=419474

Cape Town - South African government ministers on Tuesday turned on citizens bemoaning rampant crime and fleeing a country where some 50 people are murdered every day.
"What we need is partners in the battle against crime, not these eloquent spectators speaking from exaggerated comfort ... elsewhere," Defence Minister Mosiuoa Lekota told parliament.

Now when a Police commissioner is attacked in his home, is there not a real problem.

Again the government agenda is to deny and state someone else have to take the responsibility.

Sorry guys. Me and Bobbymac posted the same News item at the same time. I was a second to late to delete mine as it would not delete. So I edited in some smiles and a link to give the mods the work. (It worked) :D :D

One person says F*** off out of SA if you dont like crime... the other one says F*** off you have left SA and complain.

/me tunes in to the Disney channel.. err, I mean the Parlament channel.

And the third says crime is a perception ;) go figure.

Lekota has a valid point although he should also probe the reasons why certain individuals no longer live in this country.

Some ex SA citizens mouthing off overseas about how k@k my country is is of little concern to me. They ran.

I agree with Lekota, but he must also realise that the citizens of this country (the ones that live here) have been voicing their concerns for a long time about issues like crime, which have fallen on deaf and uninterested ears in government.
He and his fellow party members are not blameless here.

On the same day they are talking about luring back skilled south africans...

If Nqakula says crime is an "emotional matter". He and Lekota should be careful about saying things out of "emotions".

I do agree with you Sneeky on your second paragraph. Every citizen has a right to complain about their safety. I don't see how that can be generalized to "being not patriotic". The government needs to listen to constructive criticisms!!!

Lekota has a valid point

There is no point, especially not a valid one. It is just another dodge so the government doesn't have to deal with the criticism it gets. If there are valid points being raised it shouldn't matter who is raising them or from where.

This statement just further underlines how government feels about accountability.

I would take criticism from within the country a lot more seriously than that of a bunch of disgruntled ex-pats living overseas, when it comes to an issue like crime and in the context of what the opposition parties tried to achieve. Thats what I read into Lekota's statement however I can understand other interpretations or differing views, it is just 1 opinion.

As an Ex-pat, does my opinion not count 'cos I have chosen another path to protect my family? Some people buy guns... others leave. Does being a patriot mean I have to live in SA and suffer the stress of living in a prision complex?

Ex-pats remain south african citizens. They left exactly due to the brain dead comments and lack of action from this government.

Make up your mind. You either want us to stay, leave, or come back. Does this government have any clue?! NON.

Pandor announces plan to lure expats February 13 07
South Africa plans new measures to lure its overseas academics and skilled workers back home as the country seeks to tackle a skills gap that threatens economic development, a Education Minister Naledi Pandor said on Tuesday.
-
Many skilled South Africans, both white and black, left the country in recent years for reasons ranging from fears of high crime to new policies aimed at boosting black participation in the economy that often block white job applicants.

The skills shortage is seen as a major stumbling block to faster economic expansion.
They f#cked up. And are continuing to do so.

Whereas I am sorely tempted to leave for one reason only -- so that I can legally buy guns to practice my chosen sport.

Koos
(Coming up on five years trying to licence guns for sport)
Careful where you move to - many countries have even harder licensing requirements.
