Lekota lambasts Expats

I did not say that your opinion does not count, I am just of the opinion that the people that are living here suffering the stress of living in a prision complex as you put it deserve to have a much louder voice.

But our voices fall on deaf ears. How many years have South African's been complaining about the crime levels? How many years have South African's been crying about Telecoms? The SA government just doesn't give a damn - and sometimes one of them actually comes out and says something to the tune of shuttup or get out.

South Africans do not have a voice.

Lekota was equally critical of a black letter-writer "who is sitting in the exaggerated comfort of European cities pointing a finger and saying how wrong this country is".

Agreed :-) :D but the voice needs to be shouted from Everywhere, not just inside SA. Mandela got out of SA 'cos of the pressure of sanctions. Maybe the international community can get the ball rolling from the other side of the SA political scene.
 
He was responding, during debate on President Thabo Mbeki's State of the Nation address last Friday, to opposition parties who cited various people who claim to have fled South Africa because of crime.

"We must avoid the temptation to evaluate the national progress on the basis of reactions by individuals who may be traumatised by personal tragedy or those who may be seeking justification for their action or inaction," the minister said.

He said most crime victims were poor and black, and questioned the motivation for singling out "the voice of some wealthy individual who can afford (to) take the whole family and leave this country".

Plain fact: black letter writers did something about it (in their own way.) Who really has the balls to do something. Not this government who would rather decry anyone with an opinion. If anything their opinions count for more. They have already left, how many more is it going to take.

Ja, tell that to the african boat people, or the dude in the wheel well. They certainly seem to find good reasons to leave africa.

I agree with Lekota, but he must also realise that the citizens of this country (the ones that live here) have been voicing their concerns for a long time about issues like crime, which have fallen on deaf and uninterested ears in government.
He and his fellow party members are not blameless here.

This excludes the folks that have run. I also agree with Terror100%. We have no business worrying about opinions of people sitting in high places where they are not affected by crime. By running away, they have actually given up the right to voice their concerns about our country. S Africa is no longer their home and therefore they should focus on the agendas of their adopted homes. Perhaps they should form part of the ploy to try and steal our world cup.

Interesting now they are not South Africans anymore and are not allowed to comment on the problems of the country ? But when a celeb *cough* Charlize Theron*cough* won an oscar, we just had to to shout to the rest of the world she is a SOUTH AFRICAN. :confused:
